Allen has been fine, but I don't look at the position like I do QB, RB, ILB and think that there is no need to try to upgrade.

When it comes to FA, it's Weddle or Louis Delmas as options 1 & 2. That takes away the NEED to draft a Safety in Round 1.

It also upgrades the secondary immediately.

Sean Smith would be nice- he played well. But his numbers are almost identical to Cockerill. And the Steelers are already adding Golson to the CB mix.

Chadman would investigate the chances of bringing Al Woods back.

Been toying with the idea of Mario Williams as an 'any position' rotational pass rusher. Play him at DE, OLB- both sides. Play him on the 4 man line, line him up at DT, rotate with Heyward & Tuitt.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

        Light up the darkness.

Would be an upgrade over J Jones, but likely too expensive

I think the biggest key in FA (in house) is signing up Foster and Gay, everyone else is gravy.

As for Beucheam (sp) I would love to have him back, either as a starter or swing OL this year. But if he leaves and goes has success that only means we will receive a higher draft pick in the future. AV did well filling in for him and the chemistry of the OL was established, we can absorb to lose him in FA. Only concern now is where is the depth?

I've said this on another thread, but it bears repeating:

              Damon Harrison from the Jets...

I don't know what kind of money he will be looking for, but he would be an excellent fit in our defense...

He had 72 total tackles at the NT spot...he is a guy who could stay on the field on 3rd down and allow Tuitt or Heyward to get a breather...

Finally, although I know he's a free agent, I don't see his name on any of the various "top 20 free agent" lists...so, perhaps he will be more affordable...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

I find it highly unlikely the Steelers spend limited free agent dollars on a Nose Tackle

Here is what Bill Belichick had to say about Harrison:

“I mean he might be the best of all of them against the run. He’s got great leverage, reads blocks well, hard to block, penetrates. He’s not just a stay-on-the-line-of-scrimmage guy. He makes plays in the backfield or knocks the blockers back into the backfield so the runner has to either give ground or cut back into unblocked guys and then they clean them up.”

Could be a Farrior-like coup if we could get him from the Jets. An improvement on McLendon who is also 3 years younger as well. They are going to have to franchise Mo Wilkerson and work out a big money long-term contract, plus they have Sheldon Richardson and Leonard Williams coming down that pipeline on their DL soon enough as well, so Harrison may be the odd man out (especially since the Jets need to re-sign their quarterback this offseason and Fitz won't be signing for back QB dollars anymore). Spending big bucks last season on the likes of Darrelle Revis may come back to bite them...
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I thought they were thin last year. According to some it showed at the end. They can't allow this.

Getting quality help on that DL sounds like a real good idea.

They went in to the season with 6. Only Heyward and McLendon were tested. Tuitt was still growing. [turned out great] But still, really very thin at DL.

I think they expected much more from McCullers. And well Thomas did little but fans knew that and the Rookie did nothing.

But this is where we were last season and fans were also then calling for even a high draft pick there or some FA help plus all the FA help needed at several other spots also. Not much happened.

But don't worry about it everything is just fine [ducky] Yep! Everything is taken care of and we are going for two.

Getting a bit sarcastic there but it burns me up that this is how last season started. Now we still have to consider the 30th ranked Pass D which was also big on the boards last year plus the Outside LB Pass rushing which many suggested numerous names that might have helped. Not all those FA's were beyond reach or totally unrealistic. Nope I don't think even going for two is going to help that 30th ranked Pass D that much. What burns me up even more is me being just a casual fan that has only tried 2 mocks ever but in both mocks I tried to replace Ike Taylor with a 1st rd CB pick. 2013 Rhodes [no big deal] and 2015 Peters [Unattainable]. But the intent was there,

The point being, prior to this year I have been marveling at the excellent job the org. had been doing in this transition period. But this year ????? If just 1/3 of the things fans were talking prior to the season were done things might have gone a lot better.

With McCullers on the roster I don't think you can use the word "thin".

Seriously though, I can agree with this line of thought. In 2015 we saw Gay and Blake, Mitchell and Allen start. Obviously, one way to improve the secondary would be to replace a player or two with better players. Another way is to give the QB less time to hit receivers. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to see one or two of these guys replaced...cough..Antwon Blake..cough - but I wouldn't discount the idea of improving the passing D by applying more pressure.

And where does it come from? In the 3-4 the OLB's are key. A FA there was necessary. Harrison was going to be limited, both Woodley and Worilds were gone and J Jones was returning [supposedly recovered from an injury] but still suspect[I did not include him on my final 53] so obviously, I was all in with those fans coming up with OLB possibles even though the #1 draft pick was an OLB.

It is ironic that both teams in the AFCCG got mileage out of FA OLB's. Denver with Ware and NE with Jabaal Sheard who was in reach here and highly liked by many fans. He had 8 sacks and 4 FF in a very limited role. [I really don't like it when teams outslug us off the field too]

So going into this season looks very similar to last year. I am now going to watch. I expect the same. Already I am hearing how JJ was really coming on and visible. The CB's will get Golson from IR and C. Allen will get another shot [ many do not like this but I disagree. He can help.] But this is why they probably won't move in this area either so now the remaining hope is RuthlessBurgher [all other draftniks also] drafts 6 All Pros for us.

Hmm! Apparently someone [Las Vegas] does think the Steelers will be very active this off season.[Listening to their fans?]

Anyway they are one of the picks to win it all next year.

                                [url]http://www.sbnation.com/2016/1/11/10749592/super-bowl-2017-li-odds-51-seahawks-patriots-steelers[/url]

"The Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are all still chasing the chance to play in Super Bowl 50, but the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has already pegged them as the top contenders for the Lombardi Trophy in 2017.

With more than a year until Super Bowl LI in Houston, the SuperBook is giving the Seahawks, Patriots and Steelers all 8-to-1 odds to win it all in February 2017, according to Sporting News."
