The rare instance where we praise someone for lying their @$$ off while crucifying the guy who tells the truth...

Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

True, true!
A good leader knows just how much to encourage vs. discipline/criticize ... all in the name of the big picture.
Ben has *always* looked out for his OL ... culminating in his famous words as he held up Lombardi #5 (or was it #6) ... "Who's laughing now, OL?!!!!".
Remarkable maturity for a guy that was still growing up at the time ...

I had one thing i disliked and it's stuck with me for a decade. IIRC, we beat them (I think it was the Bettis fumble game), his press conference was not good - totally threw his line under the bus. something like, "I'm trying to be a good teammate here, but, it's hard to throw the ball when you don't have protection." (note: reading further into the thread, others have called this out)that's the problem. there's nothing there to hate. great talent, pedigree, teammate, historian, spokesman, champion - the list goes on and on. As I've said eisewhere, he's everything that's right about the NFL. I know there are a few stories out there - but nothing that's ever even created the whiff of scandal. He will finish his career playing in 4 superbowls, perhaps winning 2. He's a first ballot no questions asked HOF'er. When he is done with the NFL he will likely become even more popular. Shoot, even his SNL skits are dang funny.
this is a great superbowl for me. there's no one there I hate. Let the broncos win their third. It still won't erase the fact they've lost 5. Let peyton win his final game and leave as a champion. Or let a new era begin with cam and riverboat ron and the first lombardi for the carolinas.
it's all good.
having said that, i respect the talent and wouldn't be upset to see him ride out on top with a W in the super bowl
the flip of that, Carolina had an amazing/touching story on Inside the NFL about a kid who's wish was to be coach for a day. Nothing against Peyton, but, I think I'd rather see the kid get a super bowl ring.
