We all know how much Ben likes to talk about his injuries. So much so that some even think he's a bit of a drama queen. But there has to be something to it. There has to be a method to the madness.
It's a little odd. Most players, coaches, teams, etc. don't talk about injuries. They aren't open about it. Even on our own team, Ben's the odd ball that discloses more than everyone else. And I wonder what the rationale is.
And sometimes, he's elusive. For example, right after the game, he wouldn't say anything. But then he opens up as the week progresses. That says there's some gamesmanship at play here. And I suspect Tomlin must be on board because he really doesn't cut off Ben.
Maybe it's just simply to put some doubt in Denver's game plan. Maybe it's simply to make them prepare for 2 different QBs. But even moreso, does the extent of Ben's injury put more pressure on Denver? They of course expect Ben to play, but the odds go up with Ben hurt making Denver a bigger favorite. Does this extra pressure come into play? Does it matter?
Does making the Steelers seem like a bigger underdog help them be better this week? Less pressure on the Steelers for sure. We seem to do better in an underdog role when everyone else counts us out. Ben seems to perform his best when it's not expected. To the point of seeming heroic.
Is this just a mental trick to help Ben? The team? I dunno. What do yinz think? There has to be something more to it, right?
