Steelers are playoff *pretenders* because of defense, says NFL writer

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000598293/article/chiefs-seahawks-contenders-steelers-falcons-pretenders

My opinion: if our D line can get enough pressure to rattle Dalton and whoever the guy in Denver will by then (please let it be Manning), the skill deficit we have in coverage will be de-emphasized enough that we can make it in.

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

The article states that the Jets control their own destiny....I didn't think that was the case...???

The Jets are the #6 seed right now because they have a better conference record than the Steelers (5-4 >4-4)...but, the writer is mistaken...

If we assume that both the Jets and Steelers win out, they will have identical 8-4 conference records...

The next tiebreaker would be common opponents (minimum of four): Cleveland, New England, Indianapolis, Oakland

          Jets - Cleveland (W), New England (L, W), Indianapolis (W), Oakland (L) = 3-2 record vs. common opponents

          Steelers - Cleveland (W,W), New England (L), Indianapolis (W), Oakland (W) = 4-1 record vs. common opponents

Where it gets dicey is if both teams lose one game and are in contention for the same spot...if the Jets lose an AFC game (they have 3 remaining) then they can go 7-5 at best in the conference. They can lose @ Dallas, win the other 3, and still finish 8-4 in the conference. If the Steelers lose one game, they can finish 7-5 at best in the conference...

If the Jets lose an AFC game and the one that the Steelers lose is Cleveland, then the tiebreaker becomes strength of victory, which cannot be computed at this time...

If they can shut down the Bengals scoring again, that will be three games - Arizona and two vs. Cincy - that they held top playoff offenses down. Defense needs to keep teams around 20-ish points, that's all. Several teams have won Super Bowls with similar defenses. As long as they get sacks/turnovers, they'll be fine.
