How can someone think that letting the players "celebrate" in a way that risks penalties is acceptable? The rules, silly/unfair/etc. though they may be, are the rules. Until/unless they change ... just play the f*n game!
    the what if game?

a season ending 15 yard penalty... lol.

just talk to the Vikings to see what a 15 yard penalty can do to you.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

      but Go Steelers!!!

It's not as if the penalty takes the TD away. It just determines where we kick off from after the PAT.

If the NFL really wants to try to curb these over-the-top celebrations, then they should march off the 15 yards on the PAT attempt rather than the ensuing kickoff. That would mean that the 1 point PAT kick would be spotted at the 30 yard line for a 48 yard kick instead of being spotted at the 15 yard line for a 33 yard kick, and the 2 point PAT try would be from 17 yards away instead of 2 yards away. Coaches wouldn't be too happy about those shenanigans anymore.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Didn't read through all the pages of this thread...don't know if anyone pointed out how Mitchell underwhelmed on the field vs. the Bengals. For most of the season, his play has been better than last year...not a good time of the season to start to regress.

But maybe he pulled another groin.

This actually makes more sense to me. A 48 yard PAT kick or essentially an 4th and goal 2 point conversion from the 17 would make these penalties mean a hell of a lot more than kicking off from the 20 yardline.

If Holmes celebration would have been caught in SB XLIII, Kurt Warner and company would have had less field to negotiate on that last drive. Completely changes the game plan.

Cash money. I never understood why penalties were enforced on the ensuing KO instead of the PAT.

It definitely started earlier than people think, but it used to never happen and has grown steadily over time. I mean, every single tackle and catch and first down is now celebrated. It's a rarity when a player makes a play and walks back to the huddle.

Makes you wonder how the NFL is so popular...

maybe it's because people like being entertained? The "get up and act like you been there" brand of football is boring to watch.

I watched the Army Navy game and while they didn't have routines you still saw players animated after big plays and the cadets and shipmen were going crazy in the stands.

This sport is all about entertainment and when you guys accept it the game becomes way more enjoyable to watch.

Nothing wrong with being excited and celebrating after a great play.

When you're preening after drawing a flag and allowing a first down? Celebrating a KO return when you're down five scores?

I could do without that "Look at me, who cares about the team" crap. I don't need shiny objects waved in my face every minute to keep me interested.
