This is the Worst......

This is the Worst 3rd and Long defense I can remember since the late 90s when Tim Lewis ran the defense.

How do you honor the underneath patterns on 3rd and Goal from the 16 yard line???

Lack of pass rush from the outside doesn't help either.

Zone, can you say zone.
Impossible to defend when recievers are allowed to run free.
I wonder what Butler watched on tape on defending Seattle?
Has to be that these zones are really complicated because the blown assignments are numerous.
Probably a reason why a braindead Thomas cant play on the defense.

We'd have to cut everybody.

I don't care about it being zone. But 3 deep??

At least run up the seams with the WRs using ur underneath guys

Just poor fundamentals. Kind of depressing to watch.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

You need a high football IQ to play zone in this defense.
Also, have to love this http://www.draftinsider.net/reports/2012/CB/Antwon-Blake
Negative: Struggles getting his head back around and locating the pass in the air. Misses assignments in zone.

We don't have a third and long defense, going back to the days when Vick could beat a third and 25..
Its sad and frustrating.

Wonder why they're doing that?

Mike Tomlin has been more actively involved in what the defense will be doing in 2015, and it’s already been evident at training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. Tomlin has spent periods of several days this week working with the cornerbacks and safeties on zone coverages similar to what he employed when he was the secondary coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It’s the first time since he became head coach in 2007 that Tomlin outwardly has put his imprint on the defense and changed the way the Steelers play in the secondary. He didn’t do it his first eight years out of deference and respect for LeBeau, a Hall of Fame player and one of the greatest assistant coaches in NFL history.

I said this a few weeks ago. This D would be very good if we just switched to man-on-man. Even the scrubs we have would make the other QBs think an extra second to pass if we were in their face. That would increase the time for the rush.

It's just a long dead techinque in the NFL to do this.

Nice try - Tomlin took over this defense in camp. He owns it, if you will.
