Source: Ben Roethlisberger to miss a few weeks with mid-foot sprain

PITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger evidently has avoided serious injury for the second time this season.

Roethlisberger is expected to be sidelined a few weeks after suffering a mid-foot sprain Sunday in the Steelers' game against the Oakland Raiders, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Steelers initially suspected Roethlisberger had a LisFranc injury to his left foot, and they are relieved the star quarterback avoided serious damage, the source told Schefter.

Roethlisberger, who suffered the injury on a sack by Aldon Smith, eventually left Heinz Field to undergo further evaluation. The star quarterback also left the field on a cart in Week 3 with a sprained MCL, an injury that kept him out four weeks.

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, who had a franchise-record 17 catches for 284 yards, said Roethlisberger's injury is "absolutely concerning," though he did not know the extent.

"Ben is our franchise quarterback," Brown said. "We live and die with him. ... Hopefully he can be with us."

Shortly after the injury, right tackle Marcus Gilbert tossed his helmet in disgust after talking with Roethlisberger on the sideline.

Roethlisberger passed for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception before being replaced by Landry Jones, who completed a 59-yard pass to Brown in the final minute to help set up Chris Boswell's game-winning field goal.

The Steelers (5-4) play the Cleveland Browns at home next weekend, then get a bye in Week 11. Jones likely will be Pittsburgh's starter against Cleveland.

"Landry's been in this situation before, and he's pulled us out," offensive guard Ramon Foster said. "That's exactly what he did this week."

Good news that Ben will only be out "a few weeks." Let's hope it's only 2 or 3...maybe there's hope yet for a playoff push.

There's hope, if for other reason, simply because the AFC sucks outside of three teams.
