As the title of this thread states, what a "boondoggle" in Kansas City today...
Some of you folks know me by another name (NKy). For whatever reason I could not sign-in with my old creds, probably because I have changed internet and e-mail providers.... It's been a long, long time since I have drifted onto the waves of the internet. If I owe anyone an apology on here, I fully offer it now. I won't be here a lot, but just wanted to make a post for some reason beyond my current knowledge...
I will begin by stating what I have in the past: I think Landry Jones is the better suited backup for Ben moving forward. At least Ben will be back for the "no holds barred drag your butt out battle" that we will be facing next week against the undefeated Cincinnati Bungal rats.
Jones went 16/29 for 209. One TD. Two INTs, one of which was not his fault because it was actually double-tipped before ending in the wrong hands.. Not bad for his first career start on the road in a very hostile environment at Arrowhead. Could he have done better? Yes, of course. Could he have done worse? Yes, of course. ... IMHO it was a decent start from a qb deep on the roster... Ben, Gradkowski, Vick gone... Not much left and not much to hope on. But I will say it again that he showed much more than I've seen from him in preseason. And I still have a renewed hope for him even in this loss. Ben will be back next week so no issue until someone is needed again. Hopefully not this season.
My problem today falls on the defense... Alex Smith passed for 251 yds and a TD. KC actually rushed for less yardage than us with only 138. But they were 9/16 on 3rd down efficiency. They only had approx 40 more total yards than us, and 2-5 in the red zone. Time of possession favored them by around 5 minutes.... That said, if you watched the game, you saw our defense playing 5+ yards off the receivers on almost every play. You also saw multiple missed tackles on multiple plays. In my opinion the defense is the aspect that lost the game today. Just my own humble opinion.
In summary, yes the Steelers could have played better on offense. Maybe used the rushing tandem of Bell/Williams more than they did. But the usually solid D blew the game in my opinion. We have a no-holds-barred battle next week against the Bung-holes so the team needs to be looking forward. It's easy for us fans to look back in retrospect and rip the performance apart.
I have a few observations that I hope other posters will chime-in about. Please post your thoughts/feelings/opinions:
1. Does Landry Jones' moustache look like one of a 19-yr old? Could any of you grow a better one in a week or two?
2. Has anyone ever seen Andy Reid smile? Ever?
3. Our defensive secondary is young without a doubt. But will they ever learn how to tackle?
4. Just what are these "great players of Steelers past" that are on the coaching staff teaching our young players?
5. Does KC really have the best BBQ?... I think you all know I prefer the Carolina style.
6. Can our porous secondary stop the "Red Rifle" Andy Dalton?
7. Does anyone else think Dalton is in dire need of a serious haircut and transformation?
8. We have to beat Cincy next week. How much "rust" will Ben have and how long to shake it off?
9. Cincy is coming off a bye week. Does that help or hurt?
10. Does anyone really believe that the crap they serve as "chili" on hot dogs up there even taste good?
