    Legit question, no bashing

Okay. How much playing time do yunz guys think DuPree would have if DL would still be DC? I think a fraction of what he has so far. Don't get me wrong, I loved LeBeau. I just think that as our defense aged, he didn't slimplify it some to let some rookies/younger guys play and get some experience. I like what I've seen so far from DuPree.
    Thoughts?

Dupree definitely looks like a player to be reckoned with. His 1st step is fantastic

Even DLs staunchest supporters would have to admit he was slow to get younger guys on the field sooner rather than later. If he was still here, I would bet dupree hasn't even seen the field yet

We are all of ONE SEASON REMOVED from Lebeau starting a rookie linebacker on day one.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

I was a LeBeau supporter but hated when rookies wouldn't get on the field.

However I think with Dupree would have got playing time b/c we are so weak at the OLB position. I like MOATS, just not as the Starter on that side.

Simple answer. Who ever is no. 1 on the depth chart would start. No matter if it were DL or whomever. Jones got in pretty early 2 years ago...

            Excellent point!
it is HARD to play rookies on a top ranked defense. That was the case during most of the time Lebeau was here.
When a defense is bad, rookies get more opportunities because you need to fix what is broken.

Look at the 70s teams. Lots of rookies played big minutes 69-74. After that, I can't think of a rookie of note until Louis Lipps in the 80s. As the team got better, rookies had very little PT or impact.

Rookie mistakes are the weak link on a good defense is that is a well oiled machine. But rookie mistakes are tolerable if you can't make plays otherwise.

...and Dupree doesn't seem to need a year to get "bigger and stronger" and learn an unnecessarily complex defense. Would not had happened last year or this year if Butler wasn't in charge

Now back to the REAL WORLD.
Hmmmm, seems to me the LAST TIME LEBEAU HAD A 1ST ROUND OLB, he was a starter, not a backup like Dupree.

Considering that Jones AND Shazier had MORE opportunities than Dupree there is ZERO basis for the contention that Dupree would not play under Lebeau.

he finds his way into the game....hes not great but he has two things you cant teach.....first step, and bend around the corner. Hes not an every down player but i belive hes our justin houston.

jones is far improved, shazier looks like a complete stud, but dupree is a different breed of player. We want him to play everywhere....jarvis starts and has been playing VERY well although im sure post posters would just say he is slow and sucks but the moats spot is very much up for grabs.....harrison is playing limited, moats is a limited player, dupree is the real deal. I am very excited about him, but i dont think lebeau limits talented rookies

And Woodley (whose is probably a better comp to DuPree) also got a lot of snaps in passing situations as a rookie.

I agree...if you have any complaints about how Jones, Dupree or Shazier have played overall in the last two games, I just don't know what to tell you...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

And Jones played more than any of them....under Lebeau The idea of this thread has no basis in fact.

I like the overall depth in our LB corps...given 'em a dose Jarvis and Moats, then switch things up with Deebo and Dupree. Inside, Shazier and Timmons are too good to take off the field, but in case of emergency, we have experienced backup ILB's (and current special teams demons) in Vince and Spence.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
