Is the problems with the secondary...

    ...caused by Coach Carnell Lake??

He's been the DB's coach for 4-5 yrs, and he has not drafted and developed squat!!

Maybe it's time to bring in a "Munchack" type DB's coach if this season does not result
    in any improvement!!

    Thoughts??

      I blame Lebeau.

A few years ago, Carnell was getting praise for how well the DBs were playing. We've had talent and let them go - like Keenan Lewis and Brice McCain. And now we have Boykin who doesn't play. I guess because he could have made a mistake - like letting the most dangerous receiving threat on the other team go uncovered.

Me thinks Carnell ain't the problem.

Carnell Lake is in charge of drafting players?

I can't help but think that the powers-that-be in this organization (who are higher up the ladder than Lake) either have a problem evaluating players, or else they don't regard those positions as being that great of a need (or both).

Again we think it has to be the coach. Just like Lebeau.
We have the worst "talent" in the league in the secondary. How is it supposed to excel?
We finally spend a premium pick At corner and he got hurt.

We start two guys who were so bad they were CUT from their last teams. Think about that. They were not backup worthy and they are the best we have.

WHEN WE HAD KEENAN LEWIS, (an AVERAGE corner) and aging Ike, we had the number one pass defense, WITHOUT A GREAT PASS RUSH with Lake as coach.

Blame the guys putting the team together..

                  A MUNCHACK TYPE?

How bout we spend TWO FIRSTS AND TWO SECONDS in the secondary like we have on the oline?

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

                  TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

We are only successful because of Cowher draft picks. Carnell Lake was a Noll draft pick, so he has to go.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

What is a munchak type? Another former head coach or a hall of fame caliber player?

Only DB coach i can think of that was a former head coach would be Jim Mora when he got fired from ATL he went to seattle as the DB/Assistant HC on Holmgrems staff in Seattle.

Anyway, its a talent thing....Cortez is very gifted physically but his awareness is just sad, everyone else is just a body out there...i dont value CB extremely high in the draft as I am a pass rush guy, but man it would be nice to get a big press corner....Xavier Rhodes, Marcus Peters, ect...

MIght have a shot at Kendall Fuller this year, assuming Ramsey and VHIII are the first DBs off the board.

I would say it might be nice to talk to the jets about Dee Milliner (who i did not like in the draft at all, and so far has really sucked) but Cro just went down with a knee injury and Milliner is on Short term IR

It isn't like there have been a host of awesome DB picks at the top of the last few drafts...

Lebeau is a Munchack type. Or M is LeBeau type.

I don't a big issue with the "talent" they let go. Lewis was average (maybe slightly better) but looked good compared to the below average guys we had. He wanted to leave to sign w/ his hometown team and publicaly stated that fact. There was very little the Steelers could have done to keep him so no fault there. And McCain = Blake only Blake costs half as much. I've view this as a shrewd salary cap move, not letting some game changing talent go. Far from it.

Now as to talent acquisition and evaluation: the scouts, front office, and coaches have down right sucked in this area. Don't know how much say Lake has in the draft but you can't make filet mignon out of a plate of baloney.

2011: 3rd round cut. 4th round sucks in 4th year and only plays b/c no one else
                              2012: 7th round cut
2013: 4th round - can't start after 3 years and serious doubt he'll every be an even average player
                              2014: 4th round cut
2015: 4 guys brought in to help secondary. Not a single one played 1 play in the game. 2 cut and 1 didn't see the field.

The treatment of the secondary has been an abomination. The Steelers were asked if it was ignorance or apathy regarding their secondary. They responded with I don't know and I don't care....
