BOYKIN didn't get to Pittsburgh until mid training camp. Something tells me he's not up to speed on the defense.

BLAKE is a nice option as your 4th CB b/c of his special teams ability, but starting??? That's scary. Should have never let McCain get away.

McCain got a decent deal that I don't believe the steelers were prepared to match. Let's keep in mind that we lost senquez golson. It's easy to say we should have kept McCain but then we drafted a corner in the second and had talked trade with the eagles before the draft I'm assuming. Boykin imo didn't play for exactly the reason you mentioned. It was also a tough road game. I expect we will be seeing a lot of him soon, whether that's with cortez in the 2 and Boykin in the slot or another combination. I'm not terribly worried about the defense after week 1. The defense is going to need some gel time and we really couldn't have drawn a worse week one opponent as far as instilling doubt is concerned.

Snatch98 does make a valid point, but after all the confusion on D Thursday night you think they would have thrown Boykin in the mix. Its not that the D was broken, it is the coaches decided to stay with what was broken and one of the biggest pieces was #41.

Tomlin started getting heavily involved with the secondary in camp. Since then, Grant and Holliman were cut, Shark demoted, Allen stuck in suck mode, and Boykin goes from the best slot corner in the league to bench warmer.

Just read an article saying maybe it's because if Boykin plays 60% or more of defensive snaps that conditional 5th rnd pick they gave Philly for him becomes a 4th rnd pick

If that's the case, why trade for him at all?

Trading for a guy who is probably the most talented player in your defensive backfield and then not using him is absolutely puzzling. Especially when Edelman is giving you fits. Boykin is the guy best suited to match up with Edelman.

Well, they definitely can't use the, "he doesn't know the system well enough yet and could make mistakes" excuse. I don't think I've ever seen our defense look so unprepared and confused. You'd think we replaced every player and coach a week before the game.

HIGHLY doubt its in regards to the draft pick...there has to be a story there though

More likely, Colbert made this move without (or in spite of) consulting Tomlin, and MT doesn't like Boykin.
