    No Confidence in Our Backup QBs...

    ...If Ben goes down we are done. Gradowski has a dead arm, Landry just doesn't have it & Boyd is a goner. With the talent we have on offense, we need a backup who can give us a chance to win or lead the team in case of long-term injury.

    So how about Vick? - He's still got a cannon & is obviously mobile...
    It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust & sweat & blood...

    I'd take Vick in a NY minute right now over anything on the roster. I can't see Landry getting out of camp (he might, but he shouldn't), I wanted him to succeed, but it appears that accuracy is going to be his undoing.

    Heck, with Vick, you could put in a little sub-package of read option stuff and let him use his legs to give the defense a different look than what Ben brings.

      The only way the Steelers start looking for a new back up quarterback is when they cut Gradkowski and Jones. Gradkowski just got taken off the PUP list, so that's good news. Jones, I hate to say it..it's time for him to go. Or he's just a full-time practice squad member.

        But I guess if I had to play this game...I'd say the Steelers would be looking for a veteran quarterback that gets released when rosters have to be cut.

          I know that the Steelers will keep 3 QBs on the roster, but I'd cut Jones in a heartbeat. From what he has shown, I'd be shocked if anybody picked him up. I don't think he will ever be a #2 QB in the league, so what is the point in holding his roster spot? I'd rather go with Ben and Gradkowsi and use Murphy as the PS QB.

          I liked the idea of drafting a young QB to develop into a backup, but the execution just wasn't there - Jones was a bad pick. He might be a bit better than Tee Martin or Omar Jacobs, but I think he's a downgrade from Dennis Dixon, who I also thought was pretty terrible.

            L. Jones is probably playing himself out the door. Unfortunate, but that is the NFL. I think there has to be a legit concern about Gradkowski. Hopefully Ben has another healthy year.

            There will be a decent QB waived right before the season. I think the team has to consider getting someone especially if Grad's injury lingers.

            BTW, Philly will have to cut either Matt Barkley or Tim Tebow. Both are probably better than Jones right now as a #3 and looked good this weekend.

              I don't think Tebow is better than Jones.

              I don't like Jones development but I don't think he is getting cut. Maybe I am delusional but I'm seeing a back up QB miss on some throws and WR's who will probably be cut drop passes.


              Jones won't be throwing to scrubs "if" he had to replace Ben.

              I could be wrong but I think this board is going too far with Landry Jones. We have seen a lot of him and while it hasn't been fun to watch I think he survives for another year. Jones is officially the Gay guy this pre-season... no matter what he does people are going to moan and groan and blame him for every failed drive regardless of what actually happens on the field.

                Jones has had three years to learn the system...he's not understanding it. TOO many mistakes, honestly.

                    Grad is serviceable for a back up but lets face it any team whose top Qb goes down will be hurting.

                      What is most bothersome to me is that they refuse to bring in any substantial competition for LJs roster spot. I don't understand why he seems to get this kind of velvet glove treatment from the FO. Its like they are refusing to admit they made a mistake in his evaluation.

                      bringing in taj boyd this year and nothing else is downright pathetic and reeks of roster mismanagement at that position

                        No lie, I was watching the game and at one point thinking, I would rather have Dennis Dixon. At least he could run.

                          What would have been the answer to getting legit competition for the QB3 slot here?

                          Drafting Garrett Grayson instead of Senquez Golson? Sean Mannion or Bryce Petty instead of Sammie Coates? Brett Hundley instead of Doran Grant? Any of those options would have been poor choices, IMO.

                          We have a franchise starting QB and a veteran backup already...we aren't signing another established vet to be our QB3 (unless Ben or Grad get hurt), and the options in the draft were underwhelming to say the least.
