One of the nicest surprises based on what I'm reading from the reports is Landry Jones starting to look like a backup quarterback in the NFL. With Ben's style of play you have to think at some point in the season we'll need the backup to finish a game or run a few series it will be important for him to have confidence. Gradkowski's tired arm doesn't sound promising for a guy that didn't get that much work.

I hope Jones continues his progress as an NFL quarterback.

Landry Jones has gotten better but I'm not convinced he's a back up NFL qb. He stares down receivers, doesn't change his eye level quick enough and sometimes still makes bad choices.
Now is he better? Yes. He has gotten the ball out quicker and has moved around in the pocket better when the rush has been closing in. I'm not convinced we must carry 3 qb's but that has been our procedure. I got to see him play better in pre-season before giving him a "passing" grade.

Thanks for the write-ups IC. Great stuff!

I like what I am hearing about the other Jones... Howard. Seems like this could be a guy that rises to occasion to lock down a spot on the D.

On the otherhand, L Jones is far behind where he should be given his years in the league. I don't see him sticking around after this camp. The Steelers need to move on with this experiment.

**** man, this guy better be (a good back-up) for his sake. No one has aspirations of him beyond that... the Steeler franchise has invested a couple good years into him. I hope he can see what is in front of him:
Caddy for one of the great QBs, in a great franchise, for the next 3-4 years--that gives Landry about 6-7 years NFL service.

All he'll be asked to do is probably play between a few series to a few games a year (hopefully, Ben stays healthy). He'll have carved out a nice NFL pension, be able to have played on some great teams, and leave the game without debilitating injury. It's a cush job if you can get it, Landry!
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

I was going by your one line descriptions of plays in which he was involved and it seems to be exactly what you describe above. If you gave an evaluation of LJ a year ago it would have been far less positive, he appeared lost at all times and never comfortable. At this point if he can continue to improve and prove himself in pre-season games he could have a future as a backup to Ben. If not, the Steelers could be in scrambling for a backup, I'm hoping Gradkowski is still capable, but the tired arm for a quarterback that didn't really see action isn't a positive.

Personally, I think its a shame they didn't bring in any serious competition again this year for Jones and basically appear to be handing him a roster spot for another year

At least to this point he is playing better then Boyd or Murphy but it's still early and he has far more experience. One thing I like about Murphy he can spin it, he works late after practice and has lined up at wr in a few drills.

Heard that Scheuerman is done, and now off the team. Anybody else have any news on this? Also that Golson is likely finished for the year. Team will probably carry him on IR?
