Any guys who you guys think may be a camp sensation this year? I was trying to think about the kid from last year, a pudgy O-lineman (I think he was a Guard) who raised some eyebrows... I was curious whatever happened to him (white, I think a local kid from Youngstown or something)? Got me thinking about the Redzone Redmans, the little kick return guy who wasn't $h!t for us and still went on for a couple years in DET, there have been others...

Justin Brown
Zamir Cobb
I will go with a few options:
Devin Gardner - his is (along with Btyant) the tallest receiver on the roster, and tall receivers often fit this bill
Alejandro Villanueva - the army ranger is already a feel good story so anything he does will be magnified
Josh Harris - A speedster who only faces future Wal-Mart greeters in the pre-season is a good matchup
Shawn Lemon - his experience probably will have him more prepared for day 1 then guys right out of college. Question is, can he gain momentum?
Jordan Zumwalt - everything out of the draft made him seem like a hungry, nasty kid. I can only imagine what a year in the pressbox did to that attitude. -
The "little kick return guy" was a lot better than your description. IIRC, he was let go because he couldn't play special teams or come in on 3rd down. In any event, a kick return guy under the new rules is much less important than five years ago.Comment

Every year, at least one UDFA rookie makes the team. Since we drafted 6 defensive players from all levels of the defense and a couple of skill position offensive players relatively early at WR and TE, I'll guess that the UDFA rookie that makes the 53 man roster will be a versatile player at a position where we could use some young depth where we didn't draft anyone this year on the o-line...I'll go with Kansas State G/C B.J. Finney.
On defense, I'll go with a surprise starter instead of a bubble guy. I predict that Antwan Blake will be impressive enough in Latrobe and in the preseason games to beat out the much maligned Cortez Allen and highly regarded rookie draft picks Senquez Golson and Doran Grant opposite of Will Gay.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment

What was that guy's name again? Also, what was the name of the Guard from last year's training camp? Is he still around (the league)? They were talking about how he stone-walled a couple of the veterans in camp or something, and then never heard/thought about him much from there.I wasn't hired for my disposition.Comment

His last was Logan I think. Little guy. Fast as hell though. Went to Detroit. What was that guy's name again? Also, what was the name of the Guard from last year's training camp? I'll say James and here is why.
In 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 without tackling he'll get plenty of reps. Heath is clearly the starter but behind him well it's wide open imho.
Simple passing drills like the 2 mentioned he'll shine. They know they are not getting drilled in most practice sessions so it's simple pitch n catch. At 6'7 he will be open often working drags and sit downs intermediate to short patterns which is exactly what he excelled at at PS.
His ability to wall off in the passing game something he did well at Penn St. will allow him to see more reps. He'll need to get stronger because playing Baltimore isn't like playing Boston College or Nebraska but he has good hands, good footwork pass blocking and getting into and out of his cuts so he has a solid upside.
Is he Heath2.0 I wouldn't go that far but he would have been at least a 3rd rounder had he stayed in school the extra year.
I'll keep a close eye on him at Latrobe.Comment

If he had stayed another year, he likely would had been one of the top 2 TEs in the draft. To get him in the 5th Round may turn out to be a steal."My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"Comment

I'm gonna predict that Gerod Holliman will pick off 2-3 passes in the preseason and everyone will get all excited but in the end his poor tackling ability will show it's ugly head and he'll still end up getting cut.Obviously the standard is the standard.Comment

I would tend to agree. The poor tackling is a red-flag as far as I'm concerned. Just like smoking doobies when you know you're getting tested, just like getting kicked off your college team, etc. People seem to think he can be coached to tackle, as if no one at Louisville knows how to teach tackling. I don't know the guy at all, and didn't see him play. But for a guy who picked off 14 balls to get picked in Round 7 under his circumstance, I would say that guy is an extremely self-centered player.I wasn't hired for my disposition.Comment

Or, he's a player with fantastic natural ball skills that didn't play a ton of college football due to a recurring shoulder injury. If that shoulder is still a problem, then he definitely has an uphill battle to make the team...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

The chance to have a pro career and make some decent money may just be the incentive he needs to become a good enough tackler. He might never become good enough, and end up getting cut, but if so, what the hay, he was only a 7th-rounder.Last edited by BradshawsHairdresser; 07-13-2015, 09:17 AM.Comment

Part of his tackling issues are supposedly a shoulder injury. I don't know if that has been resolved, but I would like to see him compete without thinking about it. Also, While I would not say that "no one at Louisville knows how to teach tackling", I would expect that he would receive better coaching on safety play under a former pro-bowl safety than he would at a mid to lower tier division 1 school. I don't know who the D coaches are at Louisville, but I don't expect them to have an all star team of coaches there.I would tend to agree. The poor tackling is a red-flag as far as I'm concerned.
