That fumble was a planned strip, when Kevin Green saw his propensity to hold onto it loosely. It still sucks, but it was good coaching on their part, and not on ours.

I wish him the best. I have a signed rookie mini helmet from him. A guy offered to trade it straight up for a signed mini helmet of Jack Lambert. I wish I had taken that offer.

Uh, yea, Jack Lambert pretty much trumps any modern era Steeler even Silverback, Ben and Troy, he was part of the building of the Steeler organization into the winners that they are today. Any of those guys from that era get special consideration for being part of the beginning of what is the Steeler organization. it's difficult to follow (as a player) players like that.

As for the fumble, it occurred at the Green Bay 38 on the first play of the 4th quarter. To say with certainty that the fumble lost the game assumes that we would have scored on that drive ( not a valid assumption) and that Green Bay would not have changed its strategy after falling behind. Again, not a valid assumption.

Here are a list of other plays that rank higher than Mendy's fumble, which was largely a result of a great play on their part:
a) Kemowhatevertu for the pick 6 at the beginning of the game.
b) Ben, for missing a wiiiiiiiide open Wallace by several yards, near the EZ.
c) Arians, for bone-headed play calling in the final 2 minutes.
d) The entire D

and several others I can pull out.

Boston, good points all, but to get back to the fumble, I place some blame on Arians or Ben, whichever called the play ( sometimes you don't know). Mendenhall had been having success all game running off the right side; in fact, scored a TD on that side early in the 3rd quarter. On the fumble play, Green Bay expected him to run to the right and they swarmed to that side and overwhelmed the blocking. He got hit in the backfield. I thought at the time it was time to send him to the left. There wouldn't have been as much traffic and he might have had room to secure the ball and get positive yards.

He was a good back and had several good years for us. The way it ended was ridiculous, and Tomlin showed some of his usual terrible player decisions (Issac Redman, ffs). Anyway, if not for the injury, Mendenhall could have had several more quality years for us.

And to blame that Super Bowl loss on him, is just really silly. If it was any single play, and it was not, it was Roethlisberger's up-for-grabs Pick 6 early in the game - sadly, a characteristic of his that's he's never learned to get rid of.

As I recall it, the blocking in front of Mendy broke down before the play developed, two missed blocks and two tacklers arriving at Mendy so suddenly. He's got to hold the ball, for sure, but he got hammered unexpectedly early in that play.
