I always found it telling that Tomlin was a secondary coach and in all his time here they haven't drafted or developed a single great one. Lewis was serviceable nothing special. That's it. I forget...what are Tomlin's strengths again?

Back to the topic. They've drafted for need many many times during KC run. He's just being coy. If the cb position isn't addressed with a day one starter in this draft they would be hard pressed to make the playoffs and if they did would not be a serious SB contender. There should be either 1 or 2 day one safeties available and 1 corner where we pick. The need has not been this great since they traded up for Troy. It's desperation time and maybe KC should realize by now he's not been very good at drafting these positions in later rounds and finally has to use a high pick on the secondary

Tomlin's strength? Being a good head coach....
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

So looking at Waynes and K. Johnson, if he holds true to that philosophy neither of them will be the pick if available.
Jim Wexell disagrees w/you regarding Johnson:

@jimwexell: Kevin Johnson might be the best tackling 188-pound cornerback I've ever watched.

i don't disagree with the need at CB - but i've felt over the last few years our inability to create and sustain a solid pass rush further exposed the performance of the secondary. Give me an opposing QB that is constantly harried and running for his life - and I'll give you a secondary that looks all-pro.

but drafting a CB in the first round wouldn't hurt my feelings.

              That's more important.

You can coach form and technique...you can't coach willingness.

age old questions. Is it the pass rush that makes secondary look good or the secondary that allows pass rush to look good.

I just looked at 5 drafts: SI (3), MMQB and CBS Sports. All 5 were different with 4 being CB and 1 safety.

                    Byron Jones (CB UConn)
                    Marcus Peters (CB Wash)
                    Kevin Johnson (CB Wake Forrest)
                    Jalen Collins (CB LSU)

and the lone non-CB was Landon Collins (S Bama)

Nobody has any idea what's happening tonight.

scheme specific...for the steelers its been the pass rush over the last decade. Corners play zone a lot, complicated coverage but not physically difficult to play when you understand .

But the seahawks its been the secondary. Very simple scheme on the back end, complex front 7 with small athletic DL and LBs

You work with what you have...our DBs could never play like seattles do, we dont have an earl thomas or a richard sherman
