I've said before on this board that I would probably be a little more aggressive in the next few years than the Steelers generally are, hoping to cash in with another SB before our franchise QB gets too old/hangs them up. He showed last year that he still has enough in the tank to make another run, and it may be another 15-20 years before we get another QB with the "it"factor, so why not?
So, here's the pull the trigger question: If the Steelers get the CB of their choice at #22 (let's assume they do, for this scenario), the 1st round ends, and we get to #36 (Jaguars pick) or so and O. Odighizuwa is still on the board (a guy that seems to get a lot of love on this board), do you try to entice the Jags with a lopsided trade-value swap? What I would offer: #1 in 2016 (no worse than 590 on the trade-value--let's hope--Lombardi #7), #2 (56-worth 340) in 2015 for their #2 (36-550 TV points) and #3(67-255 points) in 2015. That's 930 points from us for 805 from them. I would even offer sweeten the deal if need be, so they aren't down a pick this year by starting with an offer of our first #6 (199-12 points), In the end, I might even consider giving them our 4th this year if they wanted to push it. My rationale: OO is a 1st round talent, who's past injury history has dropped him some. He's a talented and strong pass-rusher who consistently generates pressure, can hold the edge against the run (something important for our OLBs). It would mean we have no 1st rounder next year, but I would look at this as getting 2 1st rounders this year, who will already have a year of experience under their belt when the draft rolls around in 2016. Plays into the win now with Ben theory. Also, this trade would give us 4 picks in the first 3 rounds, and I'd probably go 1)CB (likely Johnson, Peters, or Collins), 2) OO, 3)D. Smith-FS and 3b) J. Heuerman-TE. Four guys that might all be starters by the end of the year, all starters next year.
So, knowing that we lost some in trade-value points to the Jags to get that sweet #36 spot (assuming OO is available still), do you pull the trigger?
