Le’Veon Bell sentenced to 15 months probation in marijuana case

Posted by Josh Alper on February 6, 2015, 11:36 AM EST

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell settled the legal issues stemming from his August arrest for marijuana possession and DUI on Friday.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Bell was admitted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for first-time, non-violent offenders after appearing before Common Pleas Judge Robert C. Gallo.

Under the terms of the program, Bell’s record will be cleared if he remains out of trouble during 15 months of probation. During that period, Bell must abstain from drugs and alcohol, complete any recommended treatment and take a safe driving class. His drivers license has also been suspended for 60 days.

“He’s relieved to have the matter finally resolved with the opportunity to earn dismissal and expungement,” Bell’s attorney Robert Del Greco said. “I expect Le’Veon will not be a repeat offender.”

Bell now faces possible league sanctions for his plea. Had Bell reached a deal before November 1, he would have had a better chance of avoiding a league suspension but the new substance-abuse policy calls for a two-game suspension for players found legally responsible for driving under the influence.

I'm guessing he'll get more suspension from the NFL for weed than Brady or anyone on the cheaters will get for cheating.

And Goodell will likely make sure that we play at Gillette in the opener without Bell as his "apology" to his assistant commission Kraft.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

15 months probation for a DUI? And a clear record if he stays out of trouble for that duration? Doesn't sound too harsh to me...Hopefully, lesson learned and on to more football glory.

If you're talking about the 2-game suspension that's likely coming, well, Bell could have likely avoided that if he had settled his legal issues prior to Nov. 1. Even so, to me, 2 games doesn't seem too harsh for a DUI.

This. I support automatic suspensions for players with DUI convictions. I'm a bit disappointed that it may decrease the chances that the Steelers win games, but its totally worth it if it results in fewer Leonard Little's.

He was smoking weed. Not drinking. Now I know I'll get all the hate cause many people still hate marijuana but I was more directing my original post towards the likely 2 game suspension. Blah blah barf barf I'm a retard blah blah. Apathy is amazing.

It wasn't just "smoking weed," it was a DUI. Nobody said you were a "retard." I was wondering why you thought the likely penalty was too harsh for a DUI?

Melvin Gordon is a bald-tire in the making. With Bell and his workload, so is he. So while you're joking, we will probably be looking at RB sooner than later in a few seasons.

Like I said. He was just smoking weed. Being high and driving is a non issue in my opinion. It is far easier to drive stoned rather than drunk. I think the probation is fine, who cares he will get by. He has millions of dollars. What posses me off is the suspension that will likely happen because of some weed. Largely I am apathetic to the laws. Weed should be regulated like alcohol and cigarets. But that's just my opinion

You say it's easier to drive stoned rather than drunk...but how can you be sure that LeVeon was able to drive safely while stoned? You say being high and driving is a non-issue...is it really? Some people feel they can drink and drive safely, or text and drive safely...is it really OK? Maybe you feel like driving while high is not dangerous for you. Can you really be sure that's the case for everyone?

This pretty much sums it up right here. The laws are the laws. They are designed to keep people that share your opinion of driving while impaired, from killing people that dont.
