A Few Thoughts Concerning the Playoffs

Though many I'm sure have grown disillusioned by this latest failure against the Saints, as has been stated numerous times in myriad ways this week, all is not lost.

To start, I think it within reason to say that should the Steelers take care of business against the division leading Bengals this week, there stands a pretty good chance they lose out the rest of the way (with games against Denver, @Cleveland, and a finale against the Steelers in Pittsburgh).

With that said, a few other factors also come into play. We can win a tiebreaker with Baltimore, but only if it's not a three-way with Cleveland as well (our common opponents record would be our undoing), but the silver lining is that Cleveland will likely lose to Indy this weekend so it should be a moot issue.

There's also the matter of both Buffalo and Miami. They both currently share the same record as us, but with Miami playing Baltimore and New England and Buffalo playing Denver, Green Bay, and New England, these two should be none-issue by season's end.

Of course this is all predicated on the Steelers winning out which ultimately (given recent history) stands the most unlikely of variables, but I remain cautiously optimistic that they can pull off the miracle.

As the playoffs go, I envision an AFC playoff picture which features a New England 1 seed, a Denver 2 seed, an Indy 3 Seed, and a Steelers 4 seed. The wild cards will be San Diego @5 and Baltimore @6. In the wildcard round, Baltimore will upset Indy and the Steelers will trounce San Diego (think the divisional round 2008 ). In the divisional round, the Steelers will eek out an upset win over a pressure-weary Peyton led Broncos team and Brady will...well, you know. In the championship round *crosses fingers* the Steelers defense will come to life and put together one of the most complete displays of dominance against Brady they've ever mustered (in spectacular fashion) and lead the way to a return trip to the Superbowl to set up a rematch against Aaron Rodgers and the Pack.

Oh, and...the Steelers win. THE END

If the Steelers win out, there can be no three way tie...Baltimore and Cleveland play each other week 17. One of them has to lose, and we win the tiebreaker with either of them.
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

Oh yeah, good point. Either way, I like their chances if they can win out and go into the playoffs coming off of a winning streak.

Also, if we win out and the Colts lose one game, the Steelers would be the #3 seed...

Well, we don't have to win out. Plenty of football left to go... The Atlanta game is against an NFC team. If we're gonna lose any, that one we could handle. Also, I think Denver will still get the #1 seed.

I like the idea of the Steelers winning out, but I fail to see why the Bengals stand a good chance of losing out if we take care of business against them Sunday.

To be honest, I think unless the Steelers offense fires on all cylinders we stand little chance of winning Sunday, let alone the rest of the season. We need the defense to dig in deep and play as if every game is their last. Understand their assignments individually, stick to that assignment and make good clean tackles. That's all the offense needs them to do and we'll win out.

And if Angelina Jolie showed up at your door and said she was sick of Brad, you'd have a shot.

I wonder which is more likely?

Well, Angie's kinda nuts. She used to wear a vial of Billy Bob's blood around her neck and French kissed her brother.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I also like the idea of winning out but that is so unlikely it's not even worth considering. This defense cannot play the type of football required to win all the remaining games. Best we can hope for is 3-1, but more likely 2-2.

I just don't see this team making any kind of splash in the playoffs, no pass Rush, secondary is horrible, and they can't seem to find the redzone

I hear what you are saying..

I think we have to remember who our QB is and how many times we watched our O look like trash in the RZ during the regular season. Our offense averaged 27 points under Arians in the playoffs and we used to watch them struggle to score TD's for 8 to 10 quarters damn near every year.
