That sounds like player development problems on the defensive side. Offense gets draft by the same front office and doesn't see to be as lost with the players they are taking.

The offensive staff isn't/wasn't coached by geezers who are too set in their ways.

Art II demanded younger players get on the field faster after 2009.

Loyal minion Bruce Arians complied, as he did in 2009 with Mike Wallace.

Dick LeBeau basically told him to take a hike, I do what I want.

If tomlin misses the playoffs again with this cream puff schedule, his seat should get warm.
So you believe that the legendary, Hall of Fame, defensive coordinator has no say in who is evaluated and drafted for the defense? Really? That is truly ludicrous if you really believe that. Does LeBeau just go on vacation from January to May? You consistently try to portray criticism of Lebeau as "attacks," "hate," and everything else in personal terms (ridiculous beyond measure on a discussion board), always avoiding any assessment of the job he has been doing the past three years and then it is always someone else's fault. LeBeau did a great job 5+ years ago, but he has been significantly trending downward and appears to have to answer except blame the players and keep searching for players that fit what I want to do. That could be a very long process if we don't see a change.

Exactly.I don't know why some seem to get so upset over what Tomlin says at pc's or how he says it. Press conferences are pretty meaningless. Some would like to see him get mad and rip players, why? It wouldn't change anything.

What is Tomlin supposed to say at these news conferences ? I sure don't want ranting sound bites from him that will result in a frenzy with the media, Youtube etc. Diplomacy is what it should be about if you are a self controlled person. I think Tomlin is very self controlled and sometimes I think he would like to shout out, " we stunk the place up ! our guys made stupid mistakes !
Lebeau didn't get stupid all of the sudden. Outside of Heyward and Timmons and Gay who, is really much of a threat or a defensive stud on this team ? We don't have an aging Troy, Kiesel, Taylor and James Harrison playing because of the buddy system. These guys are the best the team has to offer up. If we are going to be upset about anything with these coaches it should be, they didn't go with the youth movement soon enough or their choices in the youth movement has been sour.
Ben can't be all things with every game. We were doing good in the first quarter and then they tried getting cute with the toss back to Ben. Why ? we were moving the ball without the fancy stuff.. The o-line in my opinion didn't look too hot . The team and Ben looked cold and out of sorts. Things just didn't go our way but there have been seasons, Super Bowl seasons that even the oddest conditions go our way. I'm really starting to believe that the trouble with our team has been the inability to draft correctly, sign the right free agents, having a defense that requires players to sit three seasons and holding on to players over their prime.

if he did EXACTLY what they asked for they would still rip him.

He used a few names 3 or 4 games ago and the same people accused him of passing off blame and throwing players under the bus.

There is a lot of fault to go around. Ben played horribly, making bad decisions and bad throws. I don't think you can fairly put that on Tomlin. However, the play calling continues to frustrate. Our defense is both too old and too young at the same time, but our offensive play calling doesn't seem to take this into account. The Steelers need long sustained drives that keep the defense rested and off the field. Our O-line and Bell are good enough to provide this, especially against a defense like New Orleans. But too often drives are cut short by low-percentage long passes, gadget plays and the like. This nonsense dates back to Arians. It seems to have gotten worse under Haley. There are good series and even good quarters. But eventually plays are dialed up that seem more like they are being called by some stoned kid playing Madden than like an NFL offensive coordinator.

They've done this for 11 years. It's even WORSE under Haley.

Fans want to see Tomlin with answers for cause of loss, solution for future losing. And "cohesion" doesn't cut it for most fans. Right or wrong, Tomlin plays his cards close to the chest. He might be thinking LeBeau is outdated and needs gone, but can't do anything about it. Would he say that? Or maybe he believes our players completely stink and need to find a new job. Would he say that? The fact is this, Tomlin will give the public next to nothing and allow achievement or lack there of to do the real talk.

Apparently a different team than you. Haley's trick plays (flea-flicker, reverses, half-back pass) and gadget plays combine with low-percentage long-bombs by Ben to kill drives way too often. When something is working, stick with it. Too often I'm seeing play calls that make no sense given the overall situation other than if you want to surprise the other team. This team is not good enough to win with regular bouts of slipshod play calling.

That said, Ben's play was the biggest reason for this particular loss.

They ran 12 times in the first quarter yesterday.

They ran every play of their first drive in Tennessee.

They ran on 21 of their first 28 plays in Cleveland.

                          A regular Run N Shoot.

Well I guess I'm a fool because I believe the "legend" has significant say in what defensive players are drafted. To think otherwise I just find as proof of the portrayal of victim that some do to shield LeBeau for the blame he deserves to protect his overstated and outdated reputation. His glory days as a Def Coord are 5+ years in his rear view mirror. Everyone loses it eventually and he has.

New Orleans was gashed by the run the past 2 weeks. The Titans were never able to stop the run. I don't want to see a return to 3 yards and a cloud of dust as the offense but I have no problem with attacking a team's weakness.
