    Sunday thoughts.

So is Green bay a good team? Had trouble with Vikings today? So may games show that there is not such a big gap in performance on any given sunday.
Blount had a good day. When has a FA RB worked out well for Pittsburgh? Bettis was great. Pegram was ok. Any others? Stick with late draft picks or UDFA guys behind Bell is my vote.
Browns pull off a win! CRAP.
    Bungals win dang it! CRAP.
Need a Monday night loss by Balt now!

Bettis was a draft day trade

Looking at the schedules, I think Baltimore losing helps the most, so still a chance to salvage the weekend. Was definitely hoping for more though

Eric Pegram is one of the most underated Steelers of all time. Bam Morris got all the love, but Pegram was a better back IMHO. Willie Parker was a UDFA. I would say that worked out pretty well for us. Earnest Jackson worked out for us for a couple of years in the 80s. John L. Williams came over from Seattle and was also one of the Steelers most underrated players of all time. Just to name a few. Im sure someone can think of more.

Not so concerned about the Bengals win -- the Steelers have to beat them twice either way, and if they do, they remain ahead.

The Browns win wasn't so good. I dont expect Balt to lose. The Steelers will be at the bottom of the division on Tuesday morning. We're going to have to wait until next week to see things change a bit.

Atlanta gave the game away to Cleveland in disgusting fashion. I watched it in disgust. Must say, however, it's easy to see why the Browns dumped Tate so quickly. Crowell and West are good. I'm still disgusted.

I realize we control our own destiny and beating Cincy twice will go a long way toward making the playoffs, but it seems like every game today was unhelpful to us, and sometimes agonizingly so. Cle-Atl and StL-SD Maybe its good to keep the pressure on because these guys seem to play down to the situation and the better things look for them getting in the more likely they would be to play a bad game.

Even so, if the Saints could win tomorrow I would feel a WHOLE lot better.

FWP is 2nd for me in my favorite running back I have watched play for the Steelers as of today. But Bell has a good chance to replace him if he continue on his path right now. I have NO problem with UDFA for sure. Steelers have found more then a few good to great ones. What I was saying is FA RB signings in the off season have no turned out well for the Steelers since Bettis. Which I know was a draft day trade. Duce was ok when actually on the field. But a bust in my opinion because he could not stay on the field. Blount also is a bust for the Steelers. Not sure if there were any others in the Cowher or Tomlin era's. I am starting to wonder if that is another reason the Steelers don't dip into FA very much. Had a few FA bust's. I know there were some really good FA signings also in the past. Might need a few more after this season.

me too, Mike Smith should be fired immediately for some of the worst clock management I have ever seen at the end of a game. how in the world do you call a timeout with less than a minute remaining and the clock ticking on 3rd and 2?

The Browns also had crap clock management...they blew a FG opportunity at the end of the first half with poor clock management and nearly blew their GW FG in a similar manner...that one didn't come back to bite them, though...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

That game could have been a whole lot more tilted in the Browns favor if Hoyer was any good. He missed Gordon for what would have been probably 2 touchdowns. And those INTs - dang those were ugly.

He may have forced them to give Manziel some playing time, which I think only works in our favor to destroy their playoff hopes.

I still chuckle when I think of the Buddy Ryan quote on Earnest Jackson after releasing him even though he gained 1000 yards the prior season "If Jackson gained 1000 yards rushing,he must have carried the ball a 1000 times."

Browns may have lost their safety, Gipson, for the season. He was carted off the field after a leg injury and will have an MRI today. He was leading the league in INTs. Cleveland paper didn't sound optimistic.

LOL. I didn't remember that until I saw your post. Funny stuff. Rex and Rob are quiet compared to Buddy.

This is kind of my thinking as well. It would have been preferrable to get some help, but at the end of the day it's just insurance, in case we can't take care of our own business. There will be no backing into the playoffs for the Steelers and a big part of me likes that challenge. If this team have what it takes to win another championship, that mettle will likely be forged down the stretch by winning games they have to win.

Keep the pressure on and let's see what we've got!
