Can't agree that Mitchell has been "solid." But since the Steelers don't have anyone better to replace him, I think he stays in.

Agree with the point about the switch of positions and benching of Mitchell with Allen would not be a benefit. However Mitchell's play at free safety has been lacking in my opinion. Yes he has 51 tackles but zero picks and he just doesn't get his hands on enough passes. Also he is super quick but sometimes doesn't break down well and he gets to the hole and doesn't fill. When he was drafted the talking heads said it best.. big.....check fast.....check can he play football....maybe. I'm still thinking maybe but I'm with "Mr. wizard" in that I would not bench him as we got to give him a year to see just what we have or don't have.

He has been solid, he has no picks but that doesn't worry me because with our corner problems we are asking him either to play deep or blitz so the opportunities haven't been there. He is a good tackler but its tough on the secondary guys when they are having to make so many tackles in the run game because our defensive front is getting gashed. Mitchell is good and he is doing what we are asking him to do, benching him would crazy especially for cortez allen.

If you watch the games, Mitchell has been anything but solid.
He misses way too many tackles for my taste.

I watch them all and the replays of them, he has been solid, and overall he has been a good tackler.

Allen replacing Mitchell wouldn't help, but it wouldnt hurt either. Mitchell hasn't been solid. Trying to impersonate Troy hasnt worked well for him. Although Gay bit on the Nate Washington stop n go Mitchell was way at of position and the score is just as much his fault as it is Gay's. Mitchell hasnt earned his 5 million this season so far. He's earned vet minimum and thats about it.

When Troy returns or Shark is 100% I may change up the S position if Mitchell is having or causing problems. But not with Cortez but with Will Allen. Golden has played well at times also. For Mitchell he maybe asked to do to much in DL's D? So maybe he will or can play better next year.

I think you need to go back and watch that play again, Gay jumps the hitch on Washington and Allen jumps the slant on Mcluster and they both got caught by the double move, It certainly wasn't Mitchell's fault.

Mitchell has been as good in his first year in our system as Ryan Clark was in his first year...and probably a bit better than Clark was last season...I'm willing to give him another season to become fully acclimated...

did you really re-watch the play?

A lot of people are blaming Mitchell because it's the easy thing to do but it wasn't his fault.

I did, and it certainly wasn't Mitchell's fault. He's fessing up to cover for Gay, that's all.

What I make question of, Lebeau, Tomlin were both defensive backs in their day. Mix in some Carnell Lake and this secondary we place on the field is the best our coaches had to offer up ? Why stop here with my complaining ? Why does it seem like our special teams are always bad ? To me, the special team coach needs replaced.
