IMO Jones will be better than Waynes long term
I'd take that bet easy.
Jones may end up being a solid, #2 CB. At best. But he won't be anything more. CB, you don't need to be cerebral.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Byron Jones is also the most physically gifted corner in this draft or probably any other draft ever. He was top performer in everything he did at the combine. http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/byron-jones?id=2552568

He also ran a timed 4.36 forty and benched 18 reps at his pro day.

He has plenty of good tape with 37 carreer starts and imo, with Lake coaching him he could be a special player.

We all love Lake the player, but he hasn't done anything as the Steelers DB coach to make me believe that he has that ability to turn a player into a special player.

Cortez
Mitchell
Shamarko

I don't think that decent play from Antwon Blake turns into a rousing commendation.

Lake had that scrub Defensive Coordinator holding him back. What was his name? Dick Laboo or something...

So, if I am hearing you correctly Birt - and I believe that I am - we should see the following happen in the D backfield this year...

Lake turns Cortez Allen into an all-pro corner.
Lake turns a draft pick (possibly Byron Jones) into a pro-bowl CB, opposite the all-pro Allen.
William Gay is still William Gay...
Mike Mitchell will rebound to surpass the DPOY season that Troy had in 2010.
And opposite Mitchell, and returning to his full glory, will be Carnell Lake himself - player/coach.

And all this because the team finally fired Dick Lebeau. Hmmm...they should have done it sooner.

He set a world record with his broad jump, had a 45 inch vertical, was the best performer at the agility drills, all after a late start in preparation for the combine. Then he ran a 4.36 forty and benched 18 reps at his pro day.

I obviously don't really know that he is the most gifted evah but it seems like he should probably be in the conversation.

True, he hasn't been having much success as db coach lately but he did appear to bring Keenan Lewis along. And that's all I got.

As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

but Go Steelers!!!
