    The invisible Wing

Our offensive play calling was SO PATHETIC, one would think we saw the punter all day long.

Anyone recall, care to guess, or look up how many times drives stalled and we were forced to punt because of our inept play calling?

When you get the answer come back and explain how this is on the coaches and not on players boneheaded mistakes,

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

There's always plenty of blame to go around after a loss. And you could argue we got into situations where guys made mistakes because of the poor game plan. Game plan and execution go hand in hand.

All the runs and screen to the middle of the Jets D which is their strength seemed a little odd and put us in a lot of 3rd and longs. And some of the turn overs weren't really bad execution as much as they were unfortunate/bad luck. Ben's pass to Bryant that got tipped/Int'd looked like it could have been PI to me, but even if it wasn't the ball popping up in the air was a bit of a fluke. The AB fumble on the screen was unfortunate he didn't have time to tuck the ball before the defender got his hand on it. The fumbled punt return was a boneheaded play on one hand, but on the other, I'm not going to put a big blame on AB there cause he was clearly trying to make a play in the return game cause the team wasn't doing much otherwise offensively. I can live with that.

There were a lot of throws off target. There were some situations that the blocking has been better. There were mistakes by the RBs and WRs offensively. But the Jets are a good front 7 and deserve some credit for making that happen. We may not like it, but I think that just getting beat or losing a matchup to a tough opponent is something we can accept and live with.

But why didn't we attack the Jet downfield? Haley's gameplan imho seemed to overthink things and tried to be too cute and conservative. As a general rule of thumb, it seems like we should always be attacking weakness and playing to our strengths. And that seemed to be missing in the game plan. WHy?

If we put guys in the best position possible to succeed and they don't because the other guys are better, then we can place more on the players. But if we're not doing the things we're good at and taking advantage of the matchups, it's hard to put it all on the players.

Of course, there's execution problems. All teams have them. Any guy can have a bad day. But explain what's going on when we repeatedly have so many guys having bad games against mediocre competition? Why don't we ever just have one guy that had a bad game? We stack mistakes. When Ben falls apart, the Oline, the Dline, the LBs, CBs, etc all follow suit. That's the piece that tells me, it's more than just individual player execution. It's a systematic problem.

The mistakes made by the Steelers, with perhaps the exception of the disputed INT/PI on Bryant, were "unforced" errors, IMO...just bad passes and crap ball security on the part of AB....

When your two best offensive players are the ones turning the ball over, multiple times each, you are having a bad day...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

I don't put all the blame on AB for the first fumble. Why put a WR Browns size into the strength of the Jets D?

When you hand the other team the ball 5 times via turnover or easy missed FG, it would be reasonable to assume that you wouldn't be punting as much.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

It was 7:30 in the 2nd quarter before the Steelers threw a pass 8 yards downfield.

The game plan was crap. It was tentative and cowardly and the team responded as you would expect when you give them that garbage to run.

Roethlisberger himself said they tried to go deep but the Jets "took it away" most of the day.
