    Is Tomlin's Rhetoric Getting Old?

I hate bringing this up right after a loss and I don't mean to crap pile on Tomlin right now.

I was watching the CBS post game and Cowher was talking about the Steelers needing to win games in November and December. And I have to admit, Cowher was getting me a lot more pumped up about the Steelers than Tomlin does any more. And I get that I'm just a fan and this is a fan, not a player perspective. But I have to wonder, if Tomlin is feeling stale to the fan base, are the players perceiving him the same way?

Just got me wondering if this team just needs a new injection of energy? Someone from the outside to reinvigorate the team. Someone that hasn't been saying the same thing year after year after year.

I know the Rooneys value continuity. And they've been rewarded in the past with Cowher by sticking with him longer than everyone else would have. But in life, change can sometimes be good. And we did see recently this team has enough talent to play with an beat teams like Indy and the Ravens.

Could some fresh perspective make an impact? I can't help but think we could use a shot in the arm from a guy like Cowher right now.

Maybe the reality is our talent isn't good enough. And a new coach wouldn't make a difference. But maybe it would.

As a fan, I just want to feel more confident in this team. We desperately need a boost from somewhere. We need some inspired play. It's gotta come from somewhere. Either we need it externally or we need to adjust internally somehow. And for the last several years, I'm not sure that change will happen from the inside. At least I can't see where it's going to come from. Can any of you?

I just don't want to feel like we're probably going to struggle against Ten next week. And that's where my head is at. We deserve better as fans.

The last three weeks some of you fans was talking about the best team in football ,now we need a new staff lol. If they don't learn that being aggressive is why they're winning from here on out then yes they do but if they learn a lesson why would you change.

it is what it is, if you will. our ability to defend every blade of grass was below the line.

I honestly wonder if Tomlin's act has worn thin, so that the players just sort of tune him out.

So the players looked horrible today. Ben, o-line, d-line, all played bad. Add in Brown fumbling twice and Suisham missing the shortest FG any team in the NFL has missed all season. Almost laughable how many things went wrong. Almost. And the team came out flat. Jets scored their first opening drive TD all season. Think about that. And the play calling to start was awful and ineffective. That's on the entire coaching staff.

But to me, if you can't hold the Head Coach accountable for losing to an 1-8 team than you never can and might as well lock him into a 20 -25 year contract and he can retire in his 70s. If no responsibility today than you are saying the head coach doesn't matter.

I've lost count of how many posts I read here or how many people mentioned it at the Steelers bar today that they expected to lose. EXPECTED TO LOSE to the team with the worst record in the league. How has that become acceptable?

I've never been a Tomlin basher but this is inexcusable and the fact that the last 2 seasons they didn't go to the playoffs because of these types of games makes me ill.

We've all all seen the talent on this team. You simply can't come out and lose multiple games a season to the teams in the cellar. Something is wrong. I don't have an answer but it's definitely wrong. And it saddens me.

Sorry for for the book but this game has me super bummed out. I really was on board this team knowing how to use its talent. Today was a disgrace.

It's like I said on the other thread, losing to inferior opponents is fastly becoming the signature identity of the Tomlin regime. When Tomlin is long gone one day and we all reflect back on his time as the Steelers head coach I think that losing to the likes of the Tebow-Broncos and this year's Jets and Bucs teams will likely be the legacy that many of us fans will remember him by.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

OK I'm going to dress this one time and I'm done. The players follow him and I'm going to give you one reason why....
Have you ever heard the players when their interviews, They all use and say all the terms when they are interviewed, you might say I'm talking crazy but the terms Tomlin uses like... Defend every blade of grass, the word obviously etc you don't use some of the same words if you are not following someone or if he's lost you.

Do we really put this on Tomlin? What do we want the guy to say? Tomlin certainly isn't controlling how Ben throws the ball or whether or not the best receiver in the game this year is going to fumble the ball twice. Did Tomlin make the refs not award us the very obvious fumble recovery? It was a bad game that sits squarely on the poor play of the players we've ridden all season long. Its easy to blame the coaches but really we should be blaming the team. Tomlin isn't to blame in this one, but he sure seems to be a nice scapegoat when things aren't going well. We sucked today, the season isn't over. Period.

I don't know about that. They've probably heard that stuff so much, they could say it in their sleep...doesn't mean they're really listening to him.

What's old is Tomlin being used as the scape goat, that's what's old.

He coached to win for three straight weeks and then resorted to chicken **** ball again. His record of losing to terrible teams is bordering on comical. There is simply no excuse for such a cowardly game plan in a game like this with FIRST PLACE in the north on the line.

He spit the bit, again, and I'm tired of it. If they put up a similar effort in Tennessee, I'd flush him at the bye week.

I don't think Lebeau and Haley were told by Tomlin, stop doing what you were doing these past three games. I think the players were not in tune. Is this the lack of prep, keeping focused on the players or coaches ? I don't know but, turning the ball over never helps.
