C'mon now...at the start of the season, who would Have thought...

...that Ike Taylor and Cortez Allen would both be on the sideline, and the coverage in our defensive backfield would be BETTER?

I am particularly pleased with Willie Gay. I thought he was a very good nickel back going into the season, but for being pressed into full-time action, he has exceeded my expectations.

McCain and Blake are better than I anticipated as well. They may not be world-beaters, but they've done a pretty good job of responding to the challenge.

A question...is Shamarko still hurt? I'd have thought we'd have heard his name called more last night, especially after Troy went out.

I've seen Blake especially make several plays. However, I think anybody we rolled out there would be better at this point in the season than at the outset because the pressure up front is steadily improving.

Let me start by saying that I am not happy troy got hurt and prefer when he's on the field. having said that, when he went down I immediately commented that it's likely our coverage will get better. They guys who have had to come in don't have the luxury of 'freelancing' and must play disciplined. I figured our guys would provide good coverage and stay in position. That likely helped us last night.

Exactly. We didn't even touch Flacco in the first game. Much different result with the pressure on him last night, and the same was true with Luck last weekend.

The Steelers used will Allen rather than Shamarko when Troy went out with injury. While the secondary still gives up some big plays, they are aggressive, play the ball and the receiver and in general are in good position. There was at least one sack that was a combination of good coverage and the rush, there were also many pressures due to good coverage initially. Its hard not to like the results that have been seen over the past three weeks.

Blake looks good. Stays with his man... does have potential for lots of penalties, though... Thought he got away with a couple...

Another difference: Harrison didn't play in the first meeting. And he's still not in shape 100%. He will get there. His mission in life seems to be "proving people wrong". What an iron will the man has. Scary.

This offseason is gonna suck... He got a 1-year deal... WTH do you do now? Do you give him another and let Worilds go?

I don't think signing Harrison to a one year deal will preclude signing Worilds long term if that's what they choose to do with him. James understands, at least I think he does, that his destiny lies with the Steelers, they will, in all likelihood, only offer a vet minimum to him regardless of how well he plays down the stretch. Or, they'll have him show up in week 4 or 5 again, but in shape because they ask him to stay in shape until then. I just don't see them giving him a big contract.

If this continues I think we sign him to a friendly 2 year deal and lace it with incentives.

I wasn't clear... Let's put it this way... who's the better of the 2 right now? I WANT James on the team next year. while I don't see a big or long contract due to age, he's certainly still capable of playing at a high level.

Having said that, and considering the difficulty (at least perceived) signing Worilds this past season, I'm just not sure I'd spend what it takes... I see them low-balling him and him not taking it.

My gut says we go into this next offseason looking for yet another OLB...
