A William Gay pick 6 = "victory". When that happened I almost knew the Steelers would win this game.

Gay is Digest Player of the Week

      Bob Labriola
      Steelers.com

Will Gay's pick-six set a franchise record and helped the Steelers defeat the Falcons.

Based on what had happened last weekend against Cincinnati, and what with the Falcons’ high-powered offense being Sunday’s task, it seemed as though the Steelers defense was facing the prospect of a long afternoon inside the GeorgiaDome.

But not only did the Steelers defeat the Falcons, 27-20, to raise their record to 9-5, the key play in the victory was turned in by a defensive player.

With the Steelers holding a 6-0 lead as the first quarter ended, the Falcons were poised to begin the second period with a first-and-10 from their own 38-yard line. When Matt Ryan tried to get the ball to Harry Douglas, Will Gay intercepted the ball and returned it 52 yards for the touchdown that extended the Steelers’ lead to 13-0.

That pick-six was Gay’s third of the season, and it set a single-season franchise record in that category. Gay had been tied with Jack Butler, Tony Compagno, Chad Scott, Dewayne Washington, Sam Washington, and Rod Woodson, all of whom had two interceptions returns for touchdowns in a single season.

Will Gay, who also finished with eight tackles and an additional pass defensed, is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 27-of-35 for 360 yards, with no touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 109.2; Antonio Brown, who caught 10 passes for 123 yards; Vince Williams, who had seven tackles; Heath Miller, who had four catches for 68 yards, including the one that converted a third-and-1 and put the Steelers in victory formation; and Le’Veon Bell, who finished with 119 yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns.

Not meaning to imply negatively about the dance. The reindeer explanation makes sense. Thanks all!

I noticed Vince Williams' name highlighted in an above post. Noticed he's been seeing the field quite a bit, and is around the ball a lot. Is it just me or does it look like he's really packed on the muscle this year? Also looks to be a step quicker... maybe because of his rising confidence...and understanding his assignments. Regardless of the reason, he looked pretty stout today.

He definitely looks faster this year. He has always been big but now he seems to be channeling Levon Kirkland. I've been impressed with him the 2nd half of the season.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

Gay did something similar in the Indy game after his pick 6.

Has Gay played himself into a starting role next season?

And does Cortez get 1st shot at the other CB spot?

With McCain & Co in the wings- what draft value is placed on a CB?
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

We'll take a high round corner (1st or 2nd), an OLB and probably a safety with the first 4 picks. I really don't see us wasting a pick on an offensive position unless a TE falls.

It's Cortez's job to lose and if we draft a 1st round corner, hopefully it'll motivate him to train harder. If he continues to stink, I think we just cut our losses. McCain and Blake are serviceable backups.

I thought Gay is already a starter. Anyway, I'm very happy for him. He's taken a lot of heat over the years; in fact, was a laughingstock for a while, but he chose to come back here and show that he's actually a pretty good NFL player. True, he can't handle Gronk (who can?) and he got run over by Peterson, but 99% of defensive backs have had those moments.

Gay is under contract for another year...Blake is an RFA and McCain is a UFA...

I say definitely draft a corner high if the value is there...I like Antwon Blake, but both of ATL's TDs were scored on Blake...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

William Gay is one away from pick-6 record

Posted by Michael David Smith on December 16, 2014

Steelers cornerback William Gay intercepted a Matt Ryan pass in Atlanta on Sunday and ran it back 52 yards for a touchdown, putting him within reach of an NFL record.

That interception return for a touchdown was Gay’s third of the season. The all-time single-season record is four, a record shared by Ken Houston of the 1971 Oilers, Jim Kearney of the 1972 Chiefs and Eric Allen of the 1993 Eagles.

Gay’s three touchdowns came on his only three interceptions of the season. He previously had a pick-six against the Colts in Week Eight and a pick-six against the Titans in Week 11.

Whether Gay breaks the record or not will be as much about luck as anything else: A pick-six is a great play, but it’s a play that’s dependent on so many variables beyond the player’s control that there’s no way to predict when it will happen. But Gay has gotten himself within striking distance of having his name added to the NFL record book.

It wouldn't surprise me this week if Willie got another pick 6. He could read Smith and jump a route, since the Chiefs don't really go down field all that often. He deserves it, I'd love to see it happen for him.
