Lawrence Timmons is Steelers Digest Player of the Week

Timmons is Digest Player of the Week

Lawrence Timmons was the defense's best player all night in the Steelers' win over the Texans

This was a game that turned during 73 seconds of the second quarter, and it was the defense turning in two takeaways during that span to key the offensive explosion that ultimately carried the Steelers to a 30-23 victory over the Houston Texans at Heinz Field. And Lawrence Timmons was the defense’s best player all night.

Timmons finished the game with 12 tackles, including two for loss on running plays. He had the Steelers’ only sack when he ran down quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick from behind, and he got a hand on the ball thrown by Fitzpatrick that ended up being intercepted by Brett Keisel. On top of that, Timmons was the consistent presence the unit needed with three starters out with injuries, with two rookie defensive linemen having to play considerable minutes against one of the best outside-zone teams in the NFL, with the unit reeling somewhat from a poor performance in Cleveland.

Lawrence Timmons is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were: Jason Worilds, who had five tackles and a forced fumble; Le’Veon Bell, who finished with 145 yards from scrimmage (57 rushing, 88 receiving) and a touchdown; Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 23-of-33 for 265 yards, with two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a rating of 113.8; Antonio Brown, who caught a team-high nine passes for 90 yards; Ross Ventrone, who had two more special teams tackles; Antwon Blake, who had two special teams tackles; and Mike Mitchell, who had six tackles and forced a fumble that the Steelers recovered late in the fourth quarter while protecting their lead.

Actually, Keisel got a hand on it, Timmons got a facemask on it. He also whiffed horribly on a tackle on Foster in the first drive. Other than that, he was pretty solid throughout the game.

Give big #94 kudos. I thought he was the best player on our D all night long. And the guy pushed himself so hard he puked. That is some real exertion when you go to the point of barfing. Kudos, Larry. You were awesome. If we had more like you, we'd be a solid D.
