thinking about bringing my son down for a game

It has been way too long since I've enjoyed a game in Pittsburgh (not sure this year would make a game enjoyable), and my 11 year old (soon to be 12) has really been pushing for a road trip. Last time I was down was still at Three Rivers.

Any tips for getting decent seats? Which side is better, east or west side? Or does it even matter? Can I find decent priced seats outside the stadium on gameday, or will I have to make sure to purchase in advance?

Any ideas would be great, thanks in advance.

You'll get different sun depending on the time and the sideline. The seats behind the home bench (west side) will go into the shade sooner - less glare but also colder. Personally, I prefer being behind the Steelers bench If the season keeps going along this path, I'd imagine that tickets on stubhub or the nfl ticket exchange will be cheaper. I can't really speak to scalping on game day vs. buying in advance.

    Good luck and have fun!

I have sat in sections 101, 103, 138 and 139. All of these sections you enter via Gate A.
Bought some tickets off of a private owner (for 1 season in section 101) and stub-hub or ticketmaster for the others (2 games per year). Not sure about game day scalping although my friends have done so in the 500 sections and they were fine with their seats.

True what Phillyesq remarks about time of day and sun/wind/weather--especially towards more cold weather.

Hope you both have a wonderful game day experience in the 'Burgh!

IMO, you will be able to get tickets outside the stadium, and if you're patient, at half-price.

Don't panic and buy the first tickets you run into. Go all the way to right outside the stadium for better deals. The way they are playing, you should get them at a screaming deal. I prefer the luxury box seats. If you go so infrequently, as you do, they are worth the $. After you go box seats, you never go back.

Yup, I know the drill on buying scalper tickets. Just more of a question of heading down to the 'burgh with or without tickets. I'm thinking that if I come Nov. 30 for New Orleans, and things don't change, I might be picking up tickets for the cost of a Primanti Brothers sandwich.

Thanks for the input guys. He has been asking for years to go but life always gets in the way. This week a friend asked us if we wanted to go to Detroit this weekend (also about a 5 hour drive) and that fueled the fire to make the trip.

If you can't afford both the tickets and the sandwich, then take the sandwich and call it a day!

LOL...Believe me, if it wasn't for my son I would. I took him to the pre-season game against the Bills in August '08. We've been talking about making the trip ever since and he is really pushing me now. Funny enough, in '08 he was 5, and fell asleep at the game after a long day at camp. Really hoping that doesn't happen again.

Being a proud Canadian, you should try to make it a full Pittsburgh sports weekend, with a Pens game on Saturday night followed by a Steeler game on Sunday (even if you are Leafs fans, it would still be an experience to see a game at the Consol Center). Options for this year include Sabres and Ravens on 11/1/14-11/2/14 (although both games this weekend would be primetime affairs...7:00 Saturday night and 8:30 Sunday night; the other two options are Saturday night at 7:00 followed by Sunday afternoon at 1:00), or Panthers and Chiefs on 12/20/14-12/21/14 (that would be Florida and Kansas City, not Carolina and Charlestown), or Capitals and Bengals on 12/27/14-12/28/14 (a couple of big rivalry games between Christmas and New Years).

Whenever you and your son make it to a game (be it this year or in future years) let me know via PM, because while I go to most games with my Dad, we usually reserve at least one game per season with my 13 year old son or 10 year old daughter instead. It would be cool if it worked out we were both bringing our sons of similar age to Pittsburgh at the same time...would be nice to meet up before or after a game. I also have about a 5.5 hour drive to Pittsburgh from northeastern PA as well.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

You may want to check out tickemaster's website for tickets at face value. They still have some tickets for certain home games.. Many left for the Dec 21 game vs. KC. In fact, I just got a email from the Steelers saying there are some tickets for sale for the Monday night game vs Houston. they say Houston returns their allotted amount, but in reality, its those extras that the Steelers have from this summer when they went on sale.
