@ScottBrown_ESPN: Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau all but says Brice McCain will start over Cortez Allen at CB on Monday.

@jimwexell: LeBeau: "Tuitt's going to be a good player. You can write that down."

@ScottBrown_ESPN: LeBeau says he would be comfortable playing rookie NT Daniel McCullers an extended number of snaps

Especially in light of the fact that one player started right out of the box but has missed time due to injury (Shazier), another one is going to get his first start this week (Tuitt), two more are going to see their first action this week (Bryant, McCullers), and two of them are on IR. (Zumwalt, Richardson). Archer hasn't been effective at all to this point, but hasn't exactly had a ton of opportunity either.

I'm not saying this is the next coming of the draft class of '74, but to judge an entire draft after 6 games is pretty crazy.
I note that the rooks are not contributing, and ask a few questions about that, and all of a sudden I'm judging the entire draft class and complaining about it?

I understand it takes a few years to properly evaluate a draft. I'm not complaining about this draft...yet.

But on a team that has been mediocre for a couple of years, and has had to get rid of aging players, it seems to me it's legitimate to wonder why we aren't seeing more of the young talent on the field.

        Bryant, McCullers in wings

Wide receiver Martavis Bryant and nose tackle Daniel McCullers said they are excited they might get to play their first NFL games Monday night against the Houston Texans. Starting nose tackle Steve McLendon was ruled out with a shoulder sprain.

“Steve went down, so I guess I’m going to fill in for him,:” McCullers said. “I’m excited, ready to go. I have a big opportunity ahead of me.”

Bryant said he excelled at catching fade passes in the end zone at Clemson and would like to help the Steelers improve their performance in that area.

The 6-foot-4 rookie, drafted in the fourth round, has not dressed for a game and reasoned it was, “Just me being young, being a rookie; everybody else has more experience. I felt like I needed to get better at my craft.”

I 100% agree that the young guys should be seeing the field more, and it looks like that's about to happen. I'd be absolutely fine with Tuitt and Shazier as starters. Archer more involved in the offense and Bryant getting some looks as a big/fast target on deep throws or in the red zone. Heck getting some work in for MCullers is good by me as well.

The first round pick was a starter before he was injured.

The two day-two picks have been active for every game that they have been healthy and have been situational players in a rotation, getting more snaps as the season has moved along.

Are we really complaining about the lack of playing time for rookies selected on day three of the draft in mid-October?
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

                  BIG DAN

Because of the injuries on the defensive line, 6-7, 352-pound nose tackle Daniel McCullers could see his first game action. Defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said he would be comfortable with the rookie getting an extended number of snaps.

"I would be, yes," LeBeau said of the giant who's repeatedly been told to get his pads lower.

"He’s got enough strength that he doesn’t always have to be the lowest guy," LeBeau said. "He’s still very difficult to move even if sometimes they do get under him. But he’s got strength and I think you’ll see that."

                  And his agility?

"I think he’s moving well for a man his size. I think Coach Garret Giemont has done a good job down there in the strength and conditioning area of things."

We are coming off two non-winning seasons, meaning rookies should get a crack at playing time, being that those who are already playing have proven inferior to begin with. We have witnessed a complete collapse week one (and only our franchise QB saved us with less than a minute left), loss to one of the worst teams ever in the NFL at home, struggled mightily to beat a horrid Jags team, and had our heads caved in by a so so Browns team, who, by all rights, could have beaten us 55 - 3. I think that gives us the right to gripe about pretty much anything. Of the 24 quarters played by this team, only 2 of the 24 were not embarrassing. Our "star" FS is _STILL_ looking for the TE he was supposed to be covering last week.

Which quarters are the 2 out of 24 that weren't embarrassing? The first two quarters of the season were dominating against Cleveland before allowing them to come back in quarters 3 & 4. We wiped the floor with Carolina all 4 quarters. We started strong against Tampa before allowing them to come back.

Actually, the first quarter last week wasn't embarrassing either...Cleveland had negative yardage...it was a monumental 2nd quarter collapse.

I was gonna mention that, but the fact we moved the ball all Q. and got only 3 points made it frustrating and not that good. I knew what was coming when we put virtually no points up after possessing and moving it all that time.
