- Idyllic weather conditions. Low 70's and pure sunshine. Some of the Steeler fans who traveled for the game said if this is what weather is like down here, they seriously are considering moving down here. But, Sept. games are often not this nice. They can be scorchers, but generally, by Oct. we have gorgeous weather for the rest of the season.
- Yes, tons and tons of Steeler fans, especially in the lots tailgaiting. Generally, Steeler fans take tail gating to a higher level than almost all other fan bases, and it's no different with Jag fans. The majority of us, come prepared, with grills, all the fixings, a huge variety of food and drink. The lot I was in was completely dominated by Steeler fan. It looked like a home game.
- Southern hospitality is a real thing. For the most part, everyone got along just fine. I saw two little spats the entire day. One was when walking to the stadium, a "Here we go Steelers" chant broke out, and at the end verse, some Jag fans would chant, "You suck." So it went like, "Here we Steelers, here we go," "You suck." It didn't last for more than a few lines. And a couple of chicks almost fist fought after the pick six. But that was it. Other than that, everyone was super friendly to each other all day long. People are just more friendly down here, and those Steeler fans who move here become more civil from living down here, as well. I know I did.
- The stadium and game-day experience are great at Ever Bank Field. The two pool sections are cool. The massive screens they put in this year are fantastic. Food, drink and bathroom facilities are all well done. The new owner is putting a real effort into making sure fan experience is great, especially since team quality is still very lacking. Jag fans want to win, but don't let it ruin their day if they don't. The couple we came in with are Jag fans, and were not down one bit from the loss. They still had a great time.
- I feel like seeing the game live, the Steelers' flaws are even more apparent. Watching all those short screen passes look even more inept than they do on TV. Why they throw so many short passes to the right flat is beyond me. They never work. They were wasted plays every time they through them. If we keep with the Haley play calls, we will never be any sort of contender. It was horrid. Bell only had 15 carries. If he had more like 25 it would have probably made this game a much easier W. They waste so many plays, it's just sickening. Why no more passes to Miller? Ben looks hand cuffed in this system with these calls. All other teams blew the Jags' D off the field. Philly put 34 up, Skins 41, Colts 44, Bolts 33. Pgh's O put up a pathetic 10, the pic 6 gave us the other 7. That tells me Pgh is pathetic on offense. Our coaches care more about protecting their ego than doing what's best for the team. If they let Ben go no huddle and call his own plays, they would be respectable. As it is, they are pretty much pathetic.
- The D only gave up 9, but that's against a rookie QB, a junk OL, no legit RB and a WR unit down it''s top 4 players. Make no mistake: The Jags' ineptness made our D look much better than it really is. And at the end of the first half, Bortles looked like Dan Marino when he was allowed to open it up. He was gutting us with huge chunk plays.
- Troy Pulomalo is a liability. I saw him defend one play, and maybe make one tackle. Other than that, he is like not having an 11th defender. He flies around hitting nothing but air or drawing flags. The fact that LaBueu doesn't see this tells as all we need to know. They need to take their man love fest into retirement. We will never be that good on D again until those two are gone.
- It is just incredible that this team allowed a winless Jags' team to stay in the game while ALL OTHER teams who play them, just destroy them. And this is with no home field advantage to speak of, whether measured with the weather or fan noise. It might as well been a neutral site. We are the first team to play them that didn't just blow them out. What does that tell you?
This team is going no where, other than hope to hit 8-8 again. It's a shame, because if someone running the show witnessed the obvious problems and corrected them, we'd be a contender. But as it is, squeaking by the likes of the worst teams is all we can aspire to achieve. All that being said, partying with so many Steeler fans, among all the sun shine and palm trees, was such a blast and I will never forget it. But each and every fan I spoke with, after the game, all concluded that this team is not very good, nor will it be all season long. And if they enter 2015 with this same structure, play calling, and coaches, it will be more of the same. This model simply doesn't work.
