    Vet Days

So veteran players were able to take practice off, I have an issue with this.

First off, I know the reason they were allowed this, but what message are you sending to the others and these vets such as Troy and especially mike Mitchell who I feel have not done their job well enough to get this special treatment. Thoughts?

I assume the message being sent to younger guys is that older guys need more rest. It goes with being a vet. There's more wear and tear on the body. If younger guys resent that, then they must be really ticked off about the fact that older guys get paid more too.

Every season, guys with nagging injuries practice very little during the week (or sometimes not at all) but still play on Sunday. Every team does it. I suspect that the guys who do practice all week understand.

With younger guys out there and newer faces especially on defense, you would think more practice is better than a day off. I know it's not that big of a deal, but we did just lose to the bucs and they get to rest.

I just don't like the see these vets get the pass, then again I'm just an couch coach lol

Seriously. Offense or defense, it sure as hell looks like they need the practice.

Kiesel, Troy and Miller are always having off days. It doesn't make sense, because they are not going to play the younger guys anyways.

It makes sense if you want them as healthy and fresh as they can be for the game. When he got older, Hines Ward got days off too.

And really, we're not the only team that does this. During the week every coach makes allowances for age and injuries. Some players have nagging injuries that don't prevent them from playing on Sunday but do cause them to be held out of practices.

What are those nagging injuries that you speak of?

You guys cannot be serious, can you? For real?

We're 4 games into a LOOOOONG season and you're seriously complaining about the vets resting for a day during the week? HOLY SH!T you people have lost it.

Sure, let's beat up our guys even more than normal. It's not like they get the day off to go to a make your own pottery class. They are at practice watching, just not adding to the physical pounding they've already taken.

Good lord, this board is in full panic-mode after a 2-2 start. Amazing.

This thread is no way a panic mode type of opinion. But I'm sure you are ok with the play of our vets up to this point of the season?

Of course not! The entire team's performances need to improve, but that would be the case if they were 4-0 or 0-4. You can always get better. But if you think practicing guys like Keisel and Troy on Wednesday during the season is going to HELP them get better, you're nuts. Contrary to popular belief, football is still a contact sport, and guys still get the snot kicked out of them on Sundays/Mondays/Thursdays. You seriously don't think it's a smart practice to get your vets a bit more rest during the week? Really? This isn't high school. You can't make these guys run extra suicides and do extra hitting during the season and think that'll improve their performance on Sundays.

Just calling it the way I see it, these vets have not played like they should,so I am not going to make excuses that they need "extra time off." But after last weeks performance it seems they need a little extra work to maybe minimize these penalties or hell just gel with the younger guys.

Steelz: What nagging injuries do I speak of? Well, for a few examples, how about ankles, knees, groins, hamstrings, ribs?

Are you seriously questioning the notion that guys are held out of of practices because of such injuries but still play on Sunday?

Wonder if these "older guys" get to have another vets day...
