Defense on pace for 4 INTs

The only INT so far was a direct result of the WR blowing a groin and falling to the turf, leading to essentially a fair catch by Allen. That's pitiful. LeBeau has been saying since 2011 that they need to fix the turnover issue. It has become quite clear that he isn't the man for the job anymore.

The fewest interceptions by the Steelers was in 1940, when they played 11 games and teams did not throw as much. They had nine. Their second fewest came in 1955, when they played 12 games. They had 10.

They tied for No. 2 when they had 10 in 2012, tied it again when they had 10 last season, and this year are on a pace to obliterate even that 1940 mark. They have one interception after four games, a pace to pick off four passes for the entire season.

It's all the player's fault (along with Tomlin and Colbert) because the defense worked in 2008. Perhaps it was all the players then too and not the Def Coord.

Deshea Townsend had a few INT's so it's not the coaches fault.

Ike drops an INT an LeBeau gets blamed.

I think the estimate is a bit low. With Ike out we'll at least have someone on the field that could catch at an 6th grade level.

He drops 2 or 3 a year. Even with those, we're still near the bottom. We have one in four games, and it was a gift. You are a real piece of work. Do you work for the PR department? If not, you should.

I'm on board with this^. The type of coverage you play, in particular situations, along with the pass rush, forces INTs. Our DBs don't play the ball aggressively, so you aren't gonna get a lot of coverage INTs. Pressure INTs are where we mostly cashed in for years. QBs throwing under pressure, making bad decisions. You have to take a way the quick options, give the rush an extra second or 2, let your DBs away from the target cut under or get in position for an over throw. Any starting QB in the league will pick you apart if they have 7-10 yard patterns open all day.

Our defensive philosophy is called "tackle the catch". Probably the only defense in the league whose goal is to allow completed forward passes.

I agree. With the rules now in place against knocking receivers brains out and making them pay for the catch, why would you even consider employing such a scheme. It's a free for all.

No, no, no, no, no. Ryan Clark specifically said that the "Steeler way" valued hard hits far more than pics, and boy, is it showing. This is endemic in Pgh. Now that most hard hits will draw a flag, this is an antiquated philosophy. Dick can say "We need to fix it" but all signs point towards the Steelers focuses on hitting instead of picking off some balls. Hey, LuBeae, when are you gonna get around to fixing this trend? Maybe by 2020?

On pace for 12.8 interceptions this season.
