    Injuries leading to better D?

Please don't misinterpret what I am saying here. I am a JJ and Shazier fan. JJ is just starting to understand this D and make plays...Shazier often looks lost but I think will be a very special player with time. But, do these injuries actually make this D better...right now? Is this D better with Moats and Spence starting? My argument is that having a vet with a chip on his shoulder in Moats (also silverback as a pass rush specialist and for team morale) and Spence who has been a student for a couple years now...means we have guys who know what they are doing. While I believe the ceiling for both are lower...I believe they bring more value now.

    Discuss.

I don't disagree. But, I am saddened by the injuries, both are so promising and jones was playing very well, shazier will only be out a little but missing reps against these bad teams is not good for him.

Moats will be awesome, I just wish he was replacing worilds who has shown absolutely nothing so far. Spence I think will be better than shazier but we do have to see how he holds up...both are undersized but spence plays very big, think 5-9 Steve smith playing wr like he's 9 feet tall, that's how I look at spence. But he's still small and throws his body around like a 260 pounders

I hope moats kills it. I think he's a lot better than our $10 million man

Blake is concerning but I'm glad gay will stay in the slot

Also, I don't think Harrison is a pass rushing specialist at this point. That's what I would consider worilds, but I'd still expect Harrison to crush against the run he was always so good in traffic and in pursuit

I think I already asserted this same point in another thread. I honestly think the mix of Deebo, Moats and Spence in with JJ and Shazier out will indeed lead to a better D, right now. I honestly do believe this. As far as a tough guy mentality, that definitely just upped with #92 on the roster, even if he doesn't play every down. I don't think we will see him much this week, but moving forward, as he gets in football shape, I believe he will get some reps on the field. Spence has shown good instincts already, where as Shazier has been invisible so far this season; I think he needs a year to get indoctrinated to the NFL.

        No. Does that help?
Having a guy start at MLB who wasn't even able to suit up for years, is not the key to making your team better. And if you think Moats is anywhere near as good as JJ then you're delusional. He made ONE play in GARBAGE time when the offense had no choice but to throw. Not even a slight threat of a run.

I also think that Allen, Gay, and either Blake or McCain or Webb is a significant downgrade from Taylor, Allen, and Gay with the other guys contributing pretty much only on special teams.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I might be the only guy here who likes Blake. I'm not saying he is ready...or even good yet. But, I liked some of what I seen...how he shadows WRs and moves really well. I think the guy has potential.

I like him on the outside using the sideline. Gay can start in base but he's a great slot corner and should stay there

I think that Moats and Spence might be ok for the short term. I think both are going to be capable fill-ins and could potentially bring something to the table that the starters did not. I just hate the fact that JJ and Shazier are both missing valuable in-game, full-speed reps as first and second year players.
