Le'Veon Bell rushed for 147 yards on 21 carries last Sunday night against the Panthers, including an 81-yard sprint that set up a touchdown. Through three games, he has 315 yards and is averaging 5.9 yards per carry.
He's been so good, in fact, that future Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, now an analyst with NFL Network, is really high on Bell.
"Right now, I would take Le'Veon Bell over any running back in the league," LaDainian Tomlinson said Tuesday during an appearance on the NFL Network. "He has it all."
Of course, LeSean McCoy has struggled (he disagrees), Jamaal Charles is injured and Adrian Peterson has been benched indefinitely, so going with Bell isn't that outrageous, though DeMarco Murray might want a word.
According to Football Outsiders' running backs metric, Bell ranks eighth in total value, just behind AFC North counterparts Isiaiah Crowell and Justin Forcett. Murray is No. 1.
Either way, Bell gives the Steelers something they haven't had in years: A legitimate weapon out of the backfield.
"They have gotten back to being a power football team and that's what's best for this Pittsburgh Steeler football team," Tomlinson said. "(Bell and LeGarrette Blount) are fun to watch. You bring in LeGarrette Blount at the end of games. He is a closer -- he will close the game for you. Le'Veon Bell, he can do it all; he can run inside, he has the speed to turn the corner, he can catch the football. He's versatile, he's athletic. I love Le'Veon Bell."
