    Game summary, Carolina

I rarely bet for or against this team, because, although I get lots of other games right, I can't predict this team.

Just when they looked hopeless - particularly on D and trying to rush the ball - they come out and mostly whoop a team that appeared strong on many fronts.

The one thing this game reminded me of: football is such a collective, cohesive sport. Everything is connected to each other, and because of that, a team can look much better, or worse, than they really are, depending how things pan out. Last week vs. Ravens, we actually moved the ball, and held the Ravens off from scoring TDs when they got the ball down deep. In other words, we were playing fairly even to a point. But once our offense failed to make 1st downs, our D got worn down, and all of a sudden, we looked like one of the worst teams in the NFL. One thing led to another.

Same thing for the Panthers; they are not as bad as a team as they appeared last night. After a stalemate early on, eventually Pgh got the breaks and a prison break occurred. Pgh was the more desperate team, and, eventually, it showed. A few things of note.

1.) That wasn't a fully healthy Cam we played. Had he been, he'd have ripped off far more runs and, in general, the team would have been far more difficult to defend. And their main weapon to throw to is a rookie. Even Cotchery wasn't playing. And they were down their top two running backs. Imagine us trying to play without Bell and Blount.

2.) It was a red letter night for our rushing game; the patience Bell displayed in allowing blocks to set up is something he will never forget. From now on, our rushing attack is no longer a joke. And, just as most of us envisioned, Blount coming in, after Bell wears them down, produced some gushing runs. It was a sight for sore eyes for most of us.

3.) Is Moats better than Jones, right now? It appeared so. As Chris Collinsworth noted, Moats appeared like the more dynamic pass rusher as soon as he came in. Jones did have the one forced fumble, which was nice to see. I am not convinced Moats isn't an upgrade over JJ right now.

4.) Sorry, but Troy still seems like a liability. He guesses wrong all game long, and his "freedom to do whatever he wants" weakens the D across the board. The other 10 guys have to make up for Troy's freelancing and it weakens the entire unit.

5.) Wallace seems to be a better OG than Foster. Play him.

6.) I know Ben played hurt last week. He was better than ever this game. He really is a very good QB. We are lucky to have him.

7.) With Tomlin at coach, does this team not play focused and with urgency until they get embarrassed? It really seems like it take a good, old fashion embarrassing game before the team wakes up. That is on the head coach. And it's a very disturbing trend. They sure as s--t better not show up for the TB game unprepared or unfocused.

One of the most satisfying wins in years. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

But, yet you were very confident on a HUGE loss before the game, even questioned how the Steelers were going to score.

And that was addressed. That's the only point you have? Thanks for the contribution. I went 8-2 this week, but didn't touch the Steeler game. I rarely bet for or against them.

No actually I added my own opinion in my own post. The issue is when you come across as a know it all...when you don't know it all. You just got done patting yourself for being a genius, then this...I find it amusing that is all.

*sigh* Sadly, there are some fans who are merely "scorekeepers" of who are homers and who are doubters. I swear, if the Steelers win the Super Bowl, they'll be the ones at the party knocking drinks out of peoples' hands and admonishing them for losing faith in week 7.

            Good post, SB. Other notes....

            - AB is the most underrated WR in the league. He is a freaking stud.

            - Wheaton is the real deal

            - Heyward had a big game. I agree Newton was gimpy, and Heyward driving him into the turf helped with that.

            - DeCastro was mauling people last night.

            - Surprised J. Brown kept Moore on the bench all night

Interesting point on the focus. They need to impose their will on Tampa and Jacksonville. The last two seasons, multiple losses to bad teams with 6 or fewer wins. That can't happen if we want to break the 8-8 rut we're in.

And if not the other group will be there to say I told you so and call for a rolling of the heads. I mean this goes both ways. You have many who think this team is awesome no matter what goes down...others who are discontent no matter what goes down. Then there are the few who are happy when the team plays well, upset when they don't.

Who's discontent after last night's game?

Surprised by this as well. I thought it was good timing that Moore got healthy just as we were facing Carolina and Tampa in back-to-back games. I figured that he would show his worth to us against two teams that he knows quite well from playing them twice per year for the last decade or so.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

One more note: Kelvin Benjamin is the best WR in the draft. I thought he would be a bust.

Funny because its true. I actually thought the Steelers matched up well with Carolina. But I cant blame anyone who thought we were gonna get shellacked after what we have seen so far this season.

Yeah, I was big time wrong about that guy. He's the one guy that would have made me throw the remote through my T.V. if we took him at #15, and now it looks like Carolina got a bona fide top 5-10 talent back at pick #28.

Heres what I took from the game.

Leveon Bell is the best running back in the league this season, hands down. Cant think of the last time anyone could say that about a Steeler RB. Perhaps Bettis in 96.

Fans come in all shapes and sizes. I laugh at those who say things like, "We need to concentrate on the next game first" as if the "fans' focus" can make the _team_ some how lose focus, yea know, as if what us fans focus or think some how will impact the real world. That is silly. Or, that the fans' positive or negative attitude effects the team's results. "I'm not giving up yet!" Well, I conceded a loss here, and, guess what? They didn't lose, so my mental attitude was 100% irrelevant. It doesn't matter what we feel or believe, short of no one showing up for games (That could have a real impact in terms of the opponent not being impacted at Heinz Field, etc.). To each their own. I really don't care if fans have superstitious mindsets, or think our (the fans') attitude or focus has ANY bearing on reality. Whatever makes you happy. I treat that the same way as people with fairy tale religious beliefs: It's America, worship whatever you wish, as long as you don't hurt others.
