Statement by Steelers Wide Receiver Santonio Holmes

I would like to apologize to my teammates, the Steelers organization, my family and the fans for my actions that caused me to miss Sunday’s game. I recognize that I made a mistake and understand the significance of my actions, and will not make any excuses for my behavior. I look forward to putting this behind me and to being accepted by my teammates and the fans as part of this team.

At this time, I plan to focus all of my efforts on helping our team win on the field and achieve its ultimate goal, and will not address this situation publicly in the future.

Good for him. However, I would like to see him say he is kicking the "weed" habit.

Not sure if you're joking but if you're not: How do you know he has a "habit" that needs kicking? Has he had weed issues in the past?

What bugs me is not so much these guys (pro athletes) smoke pot. It's why the fuk would they carry it around on their person or in their car with so much at stake? Blows me away how unbelievably STUPID these guys are to get caught.

After Ben's bike accident, he refused to say that he would never ride a motorcycle again (although to my knowledge, he hasn't saddled up again). Tell Santonio if he ever wants to smoke weed again, he should do it in his own d@mn house (and he should wear a helmet too )
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Don't they test for pot now? If so, he better NOT smoke it from now on. Regardless of how one feels about it, if he gets caught via a drug test -- wouldn't it be like a second offense and subject to a 4+ game suspension?

Re: Statement by Steelers Wide Receiver Santonio Holmes

I'm guessing he has some weed at his house. I also think it's safe to assume there's some weed at his friend's houses. And you think he makes enough money to designate one of his buds as the "weed carrier" so he never has to have it in his car.

If the NFL does test for it then it makes me mad that he'd risk testing positive. If they don't then how hard is it to not have it in his car? Or to have a driver who isn't high and won't get pulled over for erratic driving.

It's not the smoking (to each his own) but the lack of common sense. Isn't it more fun to sit at home listening to tunes, or watching some TV, eating doritos after smoking anyway? (not that I'd know such a thing....)

Just to clarify, Santonio wasn't driving erratically. He just got caught up in wrong place wrong time type of thing. His vehicle looked like one involved in a crime so they stopped him. Bad luck. But it doesn't condone his douchebaggery.

Look, the apology seemed a bit contrived, but I could care less about that. What I do care about, however, is finding out if Santonio cares more about the Steelers than he does himself. You screwed up, everyone does. I applaud Mike Tomlin for taking action before it was necessary, and it showed his committment to doing the right thing. SH screwed up, now it's his time to man up and be a model player and teammate. It's more importanmt to not do it again and pyut the team first than it is to say I'm sorry through a press release. Show me you are sorry, Santonio.
