Ray Rice: 'At one point it wasn't worth living,' would 'play for anybody' now
By Will Brinson | NFL Writer
February 28, 2015

Ray Rice is still waiting for a second chance in the NFL, having been out of work since the Ravens cut him during the 2014 season. He's been eligible to return after having his suspension overturned in November 2014, but no one took a chance on him down the stretch last season.
Whether anyone will sign him in free agency remains to be seen, but Rice told Aaron Wilson in a lengthy Q&A with Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun right now is the "best" he's felt and he bought himself "three good years" at least with his time off.
"This year off was probably a blessing in disguise for me. It probably bought me three good years, or four or five," Rice said. "This is the best I've felt. I've tried to take this year as an injury year except it wasn't my body. I was mentally hurt. It's my job to stay ready because I know I'm not ready to call it quits yet."
Rice added he would be willing to split time with another back and simply wants to "get on the field and contribute."
But Rice's answers aren't all sunshine, roses and optimism. He told Wilson at one point, while dealing with the outcry against him when videotape emerged of him striking his wife, he felt like life "wasn't worth living."
"Honestly, I almost felt like at one point that it wasn't worth living. I see why people commit suicide. It hurt that bad," Rice said. "I was low, real low. It hurt that bad because you worked your whole life to do all the right things and then you're the world's most hated person. It was tough. It was really tough. I got low to a place where I've never been."
Rice praised his faith and family for helping him rise above the situation. He's facing the ultimate second-chance scenario and would be willing to play for anyone. Including the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"It's safe to say I would play for anybody right now," Rice said when asked specifically about Pittsburgh. "I know Baltimore wouldn't like it, but I would play for anybody right now."

Ravens cut last two players in legal trouble, Pierce may be next
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 18, 2015, 10:21 AM EDT
After facing widespread criticism for not doing enough when Ray Rice was arrested for domestic violence last year, the Ravens have been proactive about dealing with players’ off-field problems this year. Which is bad news for Bernard Pierce.
In January, the Ravens announced that they would cut Terrence Cody even before news broke that Cody was facing legal issues including animal cruelty, illegally possessing an alligator and possession of marijuana. Early this month, the Ravens announced that they would cut Victor Hampton less than 24 hours after news broke that he had been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Now Pierce has been arrested for driving under the influence. Will the Ravens cut him next?
There’s a good chance that they will. First, the Ravens want to maintain their reputation for taking off-field legal issues seriously. If they don’t cut Pierce, they can’t keep pretending they’re tough on players who get into trouble off the field. Second (and more importantly), Pierce isn’t a very good player. Last year he averaged 3.9 yards a carry while Justin Forsett was averaging 5.4 yards a carry and Lorenzo Taliaferro was averaging 4.3 yards a carry. Forsett is the unquestioned starter, and Taliaferro is more than capable of picking up the slack if Pierce goes.
What could save Pierce is that he’s only 23 years old and has a cap hit of less than $800,000 this season. A young and cheap player is an asset teams don’t easily part with.
But if the Ravens want to show that they’re serious about holding players to high standards off the field, parting with Pierce is exactly what they’ll do.

This crusade of removing "troubled" players is so funny. Most times it is just a easy reason to get rid of unproductive players like Mt. Cody. The Rice debacle has caused them to have to be ultra proactive now with "troubled" players. It has to move back to a more neutral position like the Steelers or Bungals after having "troubled" players. "Things" are going to happen that gets players in trouble. Look at A. Blake.Comment

if Pierce were a good player he wouldn't go anywhere. Hell look how long they kept Ray Lewis! This crusade of removing "troubled" players is so funny. I would guess that the NFL would look at Pierce very differently than Blake...This crusade of removing "troubled" players is so funny. One was arrested and then released with no charges filed.
One has been charged with DUI.
Pierce will likely be subject to the same suspension as Bell.Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

Yeah, the Blake thing was pretty ridiculous. He was partaking in a legal substance (which many use to excess, particularly on St. Patty's day weekend when this happened), and he was not operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, so he put no one in danger. He drank at a bar and left on foot, and was arrested for walking while intoxicated. Whaddaya say the police force focuses instead on the thousands of other people who drink at a bar and then try to drive home, okay?Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Ravens cut Bernard Pierce after DUI
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 18, 2015, 2:44 PM EDT
Hours after he was arrested for driving under the influence, Bernard Pierce has been cut by the Ravens.
The Ravens released a brief statement this afternoon confirming that they have released Pierce, a running back who has played his entire three-year career in Baltimore.
The move comes as no surprise, as the Ravens have had an unwritten policy of cutting players who get into off-field trouble. Two other players who found themselves in legal trouble this offseason, Terrence Cody and Victor Hampton, were both promptly cut.
After taking widespread criticism last year for their response to the Ray Rice domestic violence arrest, the Ravens have tried to position themselves as a team that doesn’t tolerate players getting into legal trouble. Cody and Hampton both found that out the hard way, and now so has Pierce.
The real test, however, will come when or if a star player gets arrested. Cody, Hampton and Pierce are all players the Ravens can live without. If a player who’s better on the field gets into trouble off the field, the Ravens may not be so quick to sever ties.

The Ravens dump Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce, and Terrence Cody recently following off-the-field incidents, but now they are bringing in two guys who were kicked off their college teams for pre-draft visits:
Marcus Peters, Dorial Green-Beckham have visited Ravens
Posted by Mike Wilkening on April 8, 2015, 12:21 PM EDT
A pair of well-regarded prospects dismissed from college teams have taken pre-draft visits to Baltimore.
The Ravens have met with former Washington cornerback Marcus Peters and ex-Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham, General Manager Ozzie Newsome said at the club’s pre-draft press conference Wednesday.
The Ravens select 26th in Round One, and Peters and Green-Beckham are both regarded as first-round talents.
However, both come with off-field concerns.
At Missouri, Green-Beckham was twice cited on marijuana charges, and he was kicked out of the program after an incident in which he is alleged to have pushed a woman, causing her to fall down some stairs. Charges were never filed in the case, with witnesses reportedly declining to pursue the matter against Green-Beckham.
Green-Beckham later transferred to Oklahoma, but he never played for the Sooners before declaring for the draft.
Peters, meanwhile, was said to clash with coaches before his dismissal from Washington.
Pre-draft visits do not necessarily signal a club’s interest in a prospect. They do, however, allow a team to better learn about the player. In the cases of Peters and Green-Beckham, gathering more information seems prudent — and particularly so in the case of Green-Beckham, considering the aftermath of the Ray Rice incident in Baltimore.
