Troy is a victim of his own awesomeness.

He's been a great playmaker for how many years?

Now, because of a decline in playmaking across the D over the last 2 seasons, we see Troy taking far more risks (or being used to take more risks by the coaching) to create something.

    Is he aging? Yes.

Is he as good as he was 5 years ago? No.

Would you trade him for a 6th rounder? Only if your football experience comes in an A5 plastic case with a disk inside with the words Madden & some generic number printed beside it.

The D-Line needs to contain the OL better. This will free up the LB's, who are, in my opinion, potentially the best in the NFL right now.

If they can get that, then Troy can concentrate on roaming around & making plays off the LOS, and you'll probably get better play out of Ike too, as the QB won't have 20 seconds to scan the field.

Ike simply can't catch. He doesn't even try now.

Cortez looks like a solid CB. I'd like to see him 'gamble' a little more.

Mitchell is another guy. He's not bad.

Shark could get on the field more (if healthy).

Gay has always been a solid #3 CB. If Adrian Peterson hadn't run over him once, he'd probably never be the victim of so much scorn. But as a former 5th round CB, asked the play the Nickle in this D, he does a great job.
The people that are trying to make the world worse never take a day off, why should I?

    Light up the darkness.

Come on Shawn. To call Troy a liability is just not true....If he were, the depth chart that the coaches put together would be different than it is....

He is a liability when they line him up as a linebacker and I don't think its because of any kind of physical decline. The offenses know who he is and what hes going to do so they just run stretch plays at him when he comes off the edge, they put a few big bodies in front of him and most of the time he runs himself out of the play. Of course he made some tackles because they keep running it at him, I don't think its his fault I think its lebeaus fault for asking him to play as a linebacker. We surley must have a linebacker who can play that position.

All this is true. But did you observe Troy miss more than one tackle yesterday, where he missed because he was just that fraction of a second late. In years past he'd have got there sooner. He also runs more slowly.

That said, we'd still be hard put to find a replacement for him on our roster. We just need the overall D to be better for him to show up better.

See it isn't just about missing a few tackles. It's about coverage...and his inability to cover.

I agree. I think it might be time to simplify Troy's role - if they haven't already. He used to be all over the field making plays. Now he's all over the field chasing plays. I think he has some good football left in him if they can find a way to focus it right. It's not fun watching him whiff on tackles AND outrun in coverage.

I think the bigger concern is Ike, he was routinely beat at the LOS yesterday by the Browns' receivers and seemed to be trailing many plays. There were a few head scratcher moments for Troy when for some reason he was lined at the LOS and immediately crashed inside only to have the play run past him while he took himself out of the play. I realize the OLB should have outside contain on nearly every play, but that seems like taking a defensive player out of the play for no apparent reason.

If Ike's still upset about the pay-cut; he should take a good hard look at the film from yesterday. Beat at the line, trailing plays, penalties and a dropped interception at a critical time of the game that most average high school players make with relative ease.

                              He would have.

And Ike looked almost identical to my toddler trying to catch his squishy football, including having the same arm extension, hand-eye coordination, and grip.

The Steelers probably didn't cut his pay enough, but with few options available they needed to sign him. I love Ike Taylor, he's been nothing but a great Steeler, but the Steeler fans need to give him his going away salute at every game, Troy may be right behind him, unfortunately.
