This is probably true...and is the reason he will likely stick around. But, what I am concerned about is how the Shark isn't good enough to earn Troy's spot. Is he truly not good enough?

I hadn't thought of that possibility, I don't know how ugly, ugly would have to be, but it certainly isn't out of the question should Ike just become too old, too fast.

Ike looked really bad at times not only in the preseason games but from reports out of camp. We are talking undrafted rookies getting the best of him. I agree I don't know how bad is bad enough...but I am convinced that this is Ike's last season.

Absolutely, Ike needs to enjoy his final tour of duty and the fans should appreciate what he has done for this team over the years. I can't see him returning between declining speed and quickness, the new rules are really going to put him to the test this year.

Ironic that Ike has been so effective at grabbing and clutching receivers, and so inept at catching the ball. That said, Ike has been a true Steeler, great teammate, and great personality on the team, had taken on responsibility for covering #1 receivers and held his own well, and has been an excellent tackler. It is gratifying that he finishes his career as a Steeler.

True... but he would have thought twice if we offered him starter money.

Not sure if Ike is done but he has been on a decline for the last few years. Who knows how it goes down if we moved on in 2012. To Ike's credit he took a huge pay cut but honestly, I often wonder what we would look like if we cut older vets a little sooner.

What if we went 12-4, 5-11, 7-9... and had young corners and young DL with 2 years in our system to start this year?

Troy and Lubaea have a love affair going on. It's almost gay. Dick worships Troy and it's an old boys club, so we won't know if Shark could earn Troy's spot; he won't be given the chance until Troy hangs them up.

I wouldn't assume he will. If he has a decent season this year and another team will pay him OK $, but Pgh won't, he is gone. Take that to the bank. Just read his comments after some time passed after his new deal for less $; he is not happy about losing that coin.
