Steelers Claim B.W. Webb, CB from Dallas

Zumwalt to IR is the corresponding move:

Friday afternoon is the time to drop shocking news in the NFL, in hopes that no one notices.
Thus, someone claimed a defensive player the Cowboys didn’t want off waivers.
The Steelers announced they claimed cornerback B.W. Webb off waivers, and placed linebacker Jordan Zumwalt on injured reserve.
The 2013 fourth-round pick was best known for having a helmet swung at him during a joint practice with the Raiders.
To be honest, that’s probably a bad sign for a recent fourth-round pick for a team that stinks on defense.
Here is a pre-draft writeup of Webb.

Apparently, he is an amazing athlete but still very raw. Not sure what to make of this signing. Wonder if the Steelers keep him on the 53 or waive him again and try to get him on the PS. I also wonder if he takes McCain's place or if they keep a 6th corner.

B.W. Webb was the 114th pick if the 2013 draft, one spot ahead of Landry Jones. #Steelers

I hope this is a good signing and not just a homer pick.

Cowboys waive 2013 fourth-rounder B.W. Webb

Posted by Josh Alper on August 28, 2014

The Cowboys waived linebacker DeVonte Holloman this week because his neck injury led doctors to advise against continuing his playing career, but there was no medical reason why they waived another member of their 2013 draft class on Thursday.

The team announced that they have waived fourth-round cornerback B.W. Webb. Webb’s spot on the roster will be taken by running back Phillip Tanner, who the team is likely only re-signing for Thursday night’s preseason game.

Webb had 16 tackles in 15 games for the Cowboys last season, but his most memorable moment in a Cowboys uniform probably came this summer during a joint practice with the Raiders. An on-field scuffle wound up near the fans watching the session and one of them took a swing at Webb with a helmet, causing the cornerback to react with a punch back in the direction of the helmet-wielding fan. Webb faced no discipline as a result of the altercation.

It’s not a great sign that a team as needy on defense as the Cowboys have decided they don’t want Webb, but he’s young enough that he’ll likely draw another look on an active roster or practice squad this season.

New #Steelers CB BW Webb told me at his combine that Mike Tomlin the greatest Wm & Mary alum. Paid off.

Tomlin laughed when I told him. He Did say drafting Wm & Mary grad would be albatross. I guess waiver claim ok.

Fans from the boys board are glad he's gone, he also gets to many flags.

I feel the steelers could have done a little better signing from the waiver wire. Thoughts?

Clearly we were torn between this dude and Landry J. Cowboys plucked this gem before we had a chance.

AMAZINGLY WE GOT ANOTHER SHOT.

Now we have both coveted players.....Landry AND Web.

What a SCORE!!!!!!

Based on this pre-season, every corner is getting too many flags.

I predicted that we'd go after Webb back on 8-14-14 (I didn't think Dallas would release him though...I thought we'd have to trade for him).

http://www.planetsteelers.com/forums/showthread.php/43047-Position-preview-Inside-linebacker/page4

A year ago, in late August, we traded one of many linebackers (OLB Adrian Robinson) to the Eagles to address a need at another positon (RB Felix Jones). Maybe we can something similar this year. I believe the Cowboys have a need at LB after losing Sean Lee and DeMarcus Lawrence to injury (not to mention DeMarcus Ware leaving for Denver). Maybe swapping a second year LB for a second year CB...something like Vince Williams for B.W. Webb (from Tomlin's alma mater, William & Mary, by the way).
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
