The media is part of the problem; they were calling him the most ready 34 OLB to come out of college in years and everyone assumed that he would be getting 8-9 sacks, 30 tackles and 10 TFL in his rookie season, when it didn't happen all of a sudden he's a wasted pick. Lets see how this year plays out, I think as Steeler fans we'll be able to see fairly quickly how much progress he's made or not.

The same thing is happening with Manziel; the media creates this image of a kid and then everyone expects him to be an pro-bowl player immediately, it rarely works that way.

If Jones can be really good this year and really, really good by next year the Steelers will be in a good place at ROLB. Right now I'm hoping he plays Thursday and isn't in the tub, that's more bothersome than his actual play.

Here are the guys taken in order after Jones which means the Steelers could have taken one of them: Eric Reid, Justin Pugh, Kyle Long, Tyler Eiffert, Desmond Trufant, Shariff Floyd, Bjoern Werner, Xavier Rhodes, Datone Jones, Deandre Hopkins, Sylvester Williams, Cordarelle Patterson, Alex Ogletree, Travis Frederick, Matt Elam. I don't see many names that made a big impact on their team, a few, yes, but by and large they are still learning as well.

Being as good as Worilds would allow him 4.5 years to get there, not 1 year, we'll allow for draft status 2nd round vs 1st round and he should be there by the middle of next year, how's that? It took a 2nd round premium pick 4.5 years, giving 1st round pick 2.5 ears should be about equal.

What I don't understand is how someone can critique Jarvis Jones as much as Ovi does but have a complete love fest with Timmons. That makes absolutely no sense. It proves that it's more about someone's feelings getting hurt during draft day than anything else. Timmons was drafted higher than Jarvis Jones and only had 13 total tackles his rookie year. He was originally drafted as a OLB and he was horrible at that position. He then took the majority of his high dollar rookie contract to learn and succeed as a 3-4 ILB. Shortly thereafter, he got a monster contract. However, for some reason... JJ is a bust after 1 year.

So, Jarvis Jones was handed the starting position. Ok.. maybe... maybe not. So Ovi bitches and moans about that but that's coming from the same person that bitches and moans about Lebeau not playing younger players and favoring his aging veterans. So, Lebeau starts Jones and Ovi bitches and moans because he struggled a bit. If Lebeau didn't start Jones, he'll still bitch and moan because he didn't start the rookie and it would have been a wasted pick. It's freaking hilarious ... someone has their feelings hurt because Eifert wasn't the pick. Get over it, already.

Amazing how you think this guy doesn't deserve just a little bit of doubt and questioning.

I honest to God hope he is the next Kevin Greene, but right now I'm really sceptical he is even as good as Worilds which is good but not great. Our defense requires the OLB attacking the QB's blindside to be really, really good. Have you seen that yet or am I just hating?
YET??? It's preseason of his second year. You sound like a

Nothing wrong with wanting to see JJ improve and everyone on here wants and expects him to improve but you are talking like he hasn't improved at all based on LAST years stats.

Please tell me why he needs to be just as good as a 4th year LB? I would love for him to be BETTER than any LB we ever had but why does he need to be a complete beast right now? Is it because you wanted someone else? Why does JJ have to be this insane LB in his 2nd year?

Really? Hurt feelings on a message board filled with people who don't even really know each other. You really need to get a life my friend.

He needs to be as good as a 4th year LB because he doesn't have Pro Bowl players in front of him and he has to produce now not three years from now if our defense is going to resemble anything good. He has essentially been handed the position because there is no one in front of him so he has to produce. If you are OK waiting til the end of his rookie contract hoping he turns out then that is OK...I guess? However, the need for production out of that position is more immediate IMO

I do hold out some hope that Timmons and Shazier will be released to blitz more from the inside.

Ovi was thrilled that Jones started. Ovi was disappointed that he failed. I think it was totally fine that LeBeau started Jone as he should be willing to do with many young players.

The problem I have that you are so "que sera sera" about is that he showed very little and thus far this preseason he hasn't been on the field to show much more. Yes, I expected much more than one sack and failing to keep the starting the job. But if that is the standard you hold him to we can just disagree.

Yes, you cry and whine on a message board about a damn draft pick from over a year ago because your man crush, Eifert wasn't the pick. Talk about needing to get a life.

I want JJ to be a HOFer...

The realist in me understands its not JJ's job to hide our FO's mistakes...(JH moving on and Woodley being shown the door) Its insane to put 4 years of pressure on a guy going into his second year.

                That's stupid...

The only person mentioning Eifert is you my friend. When did you ever read me type anything about him since last year? Keep on making up these conspiracies because someone dares to question whether your favorite player will live up to his billing.

Oh dear, I should hurry up and change my opinion because someone else has it too. Sorry, don't think so.

Like I said, prove to me that Jones is going to live up to his billing. Hope so, but "show me" is all I'm asking. No different than dozens of other posters have done with other players but you seem to be emotionally attached to Jones for whatever reason. If "show me" is an opinion you can't understand, then that is cool. If he proves me wrong OK...good for the team.

You take this way too serious.

I think the thing that disturbs me the most is you keep saying show me show me show me....but based on the last game of the season and his very few snaps against the giants, arent you in the very least pleased with what he has shown? between the season finale and the first preseason game he didnt exactly have a ton of oppurtunities to prove himself to fans.

He has, at the very least, shown some good things the last 2 times weve seen him.

I am going to the steelers/eagles game. I hope to get a good look at him and shazier on the field together for 1 half+ against a fast paced offense
