Last 2 drafts = solid, 2 before that? Not so much

http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?teamId=3900&type=team

I think 6 picks will pan out from this year's draft: Shazier, Tuitt, Dri, Bryant (maybe), McCullers, Zum. If all these players contribute within 2 years, that would be a coup.

I think we will get help from 6 drafts in 2013: JJ, Bell, Wheaton, Sharko, J. Brown and Vince Williams (I know it doesn't look like he will be a starter but he is playing good ball according to camp reports.)

If my hunch is right about the last 2 drafts, we will be in good shape. Now, the 2 drafts prior? Dear God, train wrecks.

2012 - DD, Beachum, the rest bums (unless Spence turns out). So many worthless picks.

2011 - Heyward, Allen - the rest all bums.

You think Zum is going to make the team?

Timmons, V. Williams, Shazier, Jarvis Jones, Worilds, Garvin, Spence, Moats.

That's 8 right there. I think Howard Jones has a leg up on Zum.
Tomlin: Let's unleash hell and "mop the floor" with the competition.

Is Garvin a better prospect than Zum?

Yes and Keith Butler is quoted as saying "Terence Garvin one day will be a starter in this league". That doesn't sound like someone who is going to get cut.

No pun intended. With the way Garvin has been playing...hate to say it, Zumwalt (even though I wanted him drafted and here) is on his way out. Unless they shelf him for the season or put him on the practice squad. I hope we don't let him go.

I think the two drafts that were bad are 2008 and 2009, there isn't one player from those drafts on the Steeler roster and there are only a few on any roster. Getting DD and Beachum in 2012 and Heyward in Allen in 2011 isn't great, but at least they're still on the team and they are productive starters, 2008 and 2009, not so much.

Garvin had a nice sack tonight and is a special teams demon.

Zum is headed to the practice squad...

They will keep Zum somehow. He has the football smarts that this team will need in the future and the coaches know it. Why else would they have him calling plays in the first pre-season game? I'm wondering with the talent we have now at the linebacker position if Vince Williams might be the surprise odd man out. He isn't the special teams standout that Garvin and Jones appear to be.
As many on this site think ... The Rooney's suck, Colbert sucks, Tomlin sucks, the coaches suck, and the players suck.

but Go Steelers!!!

I can't complain about Cameron Heyward and Marcus Gilbert in 2011, or David DeCastro and Kelvin Beachum in 2012. If you can find two decent starters in a draft, then you've done well. Finding a Pro Bowl-caliber player is gravy.

Quite frankly, I have no problem with any of the Steelers' drafts since 2010.

I hope so too.

Not saying he is the next great Steeler LB, but I do think he shows potential. I would rather see Vince Williams go. Even Moats... he shouldn't be a lock to make the team (our commitment to him is pretty minimal).

Shoot, I've heard Garvin be deemed "Big Safety" by the coaching staff. Give him some back-up reps there, and make room for another 8th LB.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

It actually kind of does sound like someone who will get cut when you put it that way lol

I like garvin to make it though, I personally like Zumwalt over Howard Jones

Moats is absolutely a lock....i think hes going to be one of the better depth pickups of the last decade

I agree. Not alot of game tape on Zum, but he has to want to stay because he could sign with anyone's practice squad if not on the final 53.

He could benefit alot from a late camp "injury"

Dont they have to get signed to a 53 to get taken off our practice squad? Pretty sure you cant just steal a PS player and put them on your own PS

They get cut and we have to resign him to our practice squad. Pretty certain after cut they are free to sign with anyone after that initial cut until we sign them to our practice squad

Once we do put them on our squad then they have to be put on an active 53 if another team wants them.

They have to clear waivers, they cant just sign with anyone if no one claims them.

If they get cut they have to be claimed to a 53 man roster, you cant just claim a player off waivers onto the practice squad, at least i think
