    Bruce Arians Must Die!

    Alright that's a little harsh and I'm not even sure how much of the play-calling he was responsible for, but that and the game plan were nothing short of pathetic. How in God's name do we not stay with the quick passing game or at least have that package ready if the Giants were getting to Ben the way they were. We rarely went no-huddle and the few times we went to the quick pass, it seemed to be there. We kept dropping Ben stright back in the pocket all night long in 5 and 7 step drops. The TD came off a quick designed roll-out and it was the only time we moved the pocket.

    Seriously, a monkey could pick plays off the play chart better than who ever is doing it now. This is completely embarrasing to have such an idiot responsible for the direction of this offense and anyone with an ounce of football sense would have had multiple packages ready to attack and adjust.

    Even if Arians didn't call the majority of plays, he's responsible for the gameplan and that should have been the last straw for Tomlin. ARIANS NEEDS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1-10 on 3rd down conversions. 0-4 on 4th down conversions. The team never stepped foot inside the red zone. That was a f'n ridiculous offensive display tonight.

    Without a complete offensive turnaround the Steelers could easily lose the next three games (Skins, Colts, Chargers) before playing the hapless Bungals.

    What a damn disgrace that was tonight!

      Another thread on this board (to which I won't reply to) suggests that Tomlin is to blame. I think he should get his share of blame for the overall outcome, but that is it.

      I said that no matter what the outcome of this season is for the Steelers, one thing was going to become abundantly clear: he was going to have to put his signature on this team starting next year.

      Having his inherited and underachieving OC still on staff past this season will not be the way to go. BA is slowly but surely becoming a disaster. The Steelers have the talent to win the SB, if they could only find a way to circumvent certain members of the coaching staff.

      I think that Arians is an odds on favorite not to be employed by the Steelers in 2009. But, with that in mind, I think the Steelers need to re-evaluate Zierlein, Ligashesky, Anderson and Garrett Giemont (strength and conditioning) and see if they couldn't do better in those slots as well.

        I'm all for the re-evaluation of several people on the coaching staff. These things can't happen during mid season, and after last year's career numbers for Ben and an AFCN title, I wasn't expecting changes this past offseason. But this year's story is not about maintaining current production levels, its about surpassing them and getting further into the playoffs, if not make it to the big dance. I agree that Bruce needs to go. We have the talent to win many games and be the team to beat in the AFC, but with last night's play calling, I don't think we'll do it. How hard is it to fathom that after the Eagles game we've won every game because of the no-huddle. But let's forget the plays that brought us the wins, lets go back to the plays that doomed and planted our QB on the turf. I'm still optimistic about our season, but we need to go and stay with the no-huddle. My two yen.

          Ben is to blame! No need to look further than that. He threw the INTs and he clearly held the ball too long. He has the ability to call a hot read on any play at the LOS.

          Get off this blaming the coaches BS whenever things go wrong because you ave bought a player jersey. If Ben is an elite QB then he has to make the adjustments at the LOS. He can audible out of any called play so don't blame play calling.

          Ben is getting paid $100M and HE did not get the job done yesterday.

              the coaches and ben are to blame not just one of them, they all win together and lose together. the o-line didnt play great but they were decent enough especially against a team like the giants. the play calling was awful though especially that 4th down call. even if hines catches that pass he wont get the first down.

                I can think of a couple of possiblities

                1 -- Arians is a complete idiot or at least a very, very stubborn person
                2 -- They call that gameplan to "mask" some of Ben's weaknesses with a 3 step drop short passing game (Of course this doesn't mask our O-Line deficiencies)
                3 -- Ben has a lot of input into the gameplan and prefers the long pass.
                4 -- Tomlin overrides the gameplan and prefers the long pass.

                I think it is mostly 1 - with a bit of 2 and 3 sprinkled in as seasoning.

                    The thing is Arians calls plays like he -
                    1. Coaches for the Broncos not the Steelers.
                    2. Doesn't have any sense of momentum.
                    3. Thinks his gameplan is fine & doesn't need to adjust.
                    4. Doesn't have a Pro-Bowl quality TE.
                    5. Plays too safe when we get a slim lead (last night, AFCC)
                    6. Doesn't care that our OL can't pass block (i.e. long developing routes).
                    7. Doesn't realize Ben's weaknesses/tendencies & leads the team into bad situations.
                    8. Doesn't realize that RBs can catch the ball too.
                    9. Doesn't care he's helping to get Ben killed.
                    10. Is auditioning for Mike Martz's coaching staff.
                    It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust & sweat & blood...

                      And this is why BA can't be back as OC next year. He is NOT capable of adjusting and has only one game plan at a time and won't change up as circumstances dictate.

                      The no-huddle keeps opponents on their heels and forces the O to execute more precisely. BA doesn't grasp this concept very well and instead of going ball$ out and attacking the jugular, he goes conservative and sits on a lead. Remember, he did just that when he was OC with the Clowns and they had the Steelers on the ropes in the playoff game. The Steelers, naturally, came back to win and repudiated, once again, the Prevent Offense of Bruce Arians.
