Steelers’ Foster: We Have A Shot & That Is All We Need

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pittsburgh Steelers guard Ramon Foster joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday to preview the upcoming game Sunday in Green Bay.

Amazingly enough, the game on Sunday still means something.. Although, it will take a Christmas Miracle to make the playoffs.

“We have a shot,” Foster said. “That is all we need. Everyone is 0-0 when you get in.”

The Steelers will be making a rare trip to Lambeau Field. In fact, it will be the first time quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has ever played there.

Foster admits that as a fan, it’s one of the places you have to see, but forgive him if he won’t be taking pictures of the legendary home of the Packers.

“It’s a business trip,” Foster said. “Everybody is on board and looking forward to this one.”

Foster knows it will be cold in Green Bay, but he says they won’t feel it if they are winning.

Listen to the full interview here along with a special holiday greeting from Ramon:

Unfortunately, by the time they play the Steeler's fate will be determined in all likelihood.

Jets and Cleveland - 1:00PM (The Steelers need Cleveland)
Miami and Buffalo - 1:00PM (The Steelers need Buffalo)

Other relevant games all at 4:30

NE and Baltimore (The Steelers need New England)
Oakland and San Diego (Not a necessity this week, but San Diego needs to lose one)

I think the above is correct.
If either of the first two go the wrong way, by the time the Steelers tee it up they will be out of the playoffs.

Steelers’ slim playoff hopes hinge on four- or five-way tie
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 19, 2013, 4:08 PM EST

Fourteen NFL teams currently have losing records. The Steelers are the only one of those teams that has not been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

But while the Steelers still have a chance to make the playoffs, those chances rest on the obscure possibility that they end up in a four- or five-way tie with the Ravens, Chargers, Dolphins and Jets, all at 8-8.

If the Steelers win out to finish 8-8 while the Ravens lose out to finish 8-8, the Steelers would be considered the second place team in the AFC North, based on their superior record within the division. The Steelers would also need the Dolphins to lose out and the Jets to win out, which would make both of those teams 8-8, and would make the Jets the second-place team in the AFC East based on a superior division record.

Because the first step of a tiebreaker with more than one teams is to use the divisional tiebreakers to eliminate all but one team from each division, a four-way tiebreaker among the Ravens, Steelers, Dolphins and Jets would turn into a two-way tiebreaker between the Steelers and Jets, which the Steelers would win based on a superior conference record.

The Steelers would also need the Chargers to lose at least one of their two remaining games. If the Chargers lose one game to finish at 8-8, the Steelers would win a tiebreaker with them based on a superior conference record.

Ultimately, the Steelers need to go 2-0 while the Jets go 2-0, the Ravens go 0-2, the Dolphins go 0-2 and the Chargers go either 1-1 or 0-2, and they’re in the playoffs. So I’m telling you there’s a chance.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Crazier things have happened. The Jets should beat Cleveland. Miami is playing a road game in the division. The Rats finish Cheats, Bungles. The Jets would be playing Miami week 17. And San Diego gets KC to finish.

I'd call Buffalo and the Jets beating Miami minor upsets. Otherwise, if this thing goes chalk, we've got a shot... and that shot would be against that Cincy team we just pantsed on Sunday. Of course, that would leave a second round matchup between this secondary and Peyton Manning, so there is that thought to sober those of us wearing the B & G colored glasses back up...

All we need? Steelers had many shots earlier in the season and blew em all.

That's what I was saying last week too. Is there any competitive reason why they wouldn't want to flex our game to a 1pm start? I know there is a logistical rationale (can't just change a game time on a Sunday's outcomes), but I just wonder if it would upset a certain balance (that I'm not seeing)... where it puts other teams at a (slight) competitive advantage/disadvantage, switching a game time.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

They had a shot 2 weeks ago when they lost at home to Miami in the snow.

If you've got a locker room full of guys who quit, your problem is bigger than just not making this year's playoffs. Missed opportunities aside, the difference in talent in today's NFL is, for the most part, slim. Attitude is everything. And to me it is encouraging that guys are still hustling and working hard, even if 8 - 8 is the best they can get, because it means that there's a platform to build on for next year. There's a reason why we're not Jacksonville or Oakland or Cleveland, year in year out bad, and this is it.

Yet another season this team rolled in unprepared by Tomlin. What is it, three straight openers this guy has lost now and one of them on our own field and to the Titans ! The odds of you going very far in the season let alone the playoffs are slim when you start out flat. 0-4 and trying to dig your way out of a hole is difficult. Play the young guys, see what they can do but what I'm really saying, " hope you get a high draft pick. "

Losing your starting center and your team defensive captain at seasons start can do that for you. In a lost season, how the team finishes tells a lot. Signs are positive for the offense, and even the defense has shown signs of resiliency. This defense can reach top 10 again with just a few more pieces. A dominant NT would be a start.

The game was lost before Pouncey went down as far as I recall. I get what your saying about how a team ends a season. The defense would do good with a beast NT but since most teams are 3-4 now, they're difficult to get. We need safeties and corners on this defense to be a good or one of the better defense again. We are a few players away from being a power house again but, can the front office make it happen ?

Pouncey went down on the 1st possession of the first quarter when we were up 2-0.
