NONSTEELERS: New Spygate Brewing?

Texans Allege ‘Fishy’ Adjustments By The Patriots

Houston (CBS Houston) - The Texans defense struggled against Tom Brady and the Patriots. But then again, who doesn’t?

After the Texans 34-31 loss, defensive end Antonio Smith made it clear he thought Brady had a little extra help in carving up their defense to the tune of 365 passing yards.

“Either teams are spying on us or scouting us,” Smith said.

The nine-year veteran says the Texans added a new defensive wrinkle this week but the Patriots ’miraculously’ knew it was coming.

“It was just miraculous that they changed up some things that they did on offense that keyed on what we put in this week,” Smith said. “There’s no way. We have not did it ever (sic) before and they ain’t never changed it ever before so it was just kind of fishy.” ()

In 2007 the Patriots were involved in a scandal commonly know as ‘Spy Gate’ where Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 and the team had to forfeit a first-round draft pick for secretly taping coaches.

“(Brady) knew what we were doing.” linebacker Joe Mays said.

“It is a specific thing that was important to what we were going to do today that they did all year.” Smith added.

The Patriots deciding to spy on a 2-9 team a week after their biggest win of the season seems like a stretch. But if the allegations are proven true, it would certainly be a major scandal for a Patriots team gearing up for a playoff run.

Even when the Pats have minimal talent on their roster they still seem to have an edge over most everyone else.

He was 36-44 at Cleveland with only 1 winning season in 5. It's amazing (in a sketchy way) what he's done in NE.

This Pats team isn't that good IMO. I wouldn't be surprised given how average Brady has been for much of the season.

Make no mistake, the difference in the game was Gronk. Roethlisberger could win a lot of games with a player like him on the roster.

Pretty smart move by Smith. Now everyone is talking about the Pats and cheating instead of focusing on a pre-season favorite mired in a 10-game losing streak.

Because after all, no other team in the history of the NFL ever came back from being down 10 points at half-time.

Nah... they arent putting up 55 vs anyone else with Gronk. The difference was Clark and Troy trying to guess instead of keeping their assignments.

..and no disrespect but Ben ain't no Brady.

Then again, no other team in the history of the NFL ever cheated their way to 3, THREE POINT championships. You guys have had some great talents and Brady is one of the best ever. But Brady made Belichick, not the other way around. It's a disservice to him and others, the extent to which Belichick will go to try to win. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to hear that he's still trying to find ways to cheat the game to his advantage.

Because of the history of the Pats, there will always been suspicion. It is the perception now that they cheated and only received a "slap on the wrist" from the NFL top brass. This will always haunt them going forward.

                      Twas but a joke...

Antonio Smith: I was joking about Patriots spying
Posted by Josh Alper on December 3, 2013, 7:16 AM EST

After the Patriots beat the Texans in Week 13, Texans defensive end Antonio Smith said that he thought “it was kind of fishy” that the Patriots seemed to change up things on offense to combat things the Texans put in just for this week.

Any reference to spying that involves the Patriots and Bill Belichick is going to generate a response and Smith’s comments did just that. Both Belichick and Tom Brady were asked about them on Monday, shrugging off the suggestion without much emotion in the response, and then Smith was asked about it when he met the media.

The defensive end said he was “tickled” by the reaction to what he said as a joke, but apologized for using the word spying as part of his attempt at humor.

“I said it, but you have to check the manner in which I said it,” Smith said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I didn’t accuse them of beating us with cheating. Come on, don’t you have a sense of humor? Though it may be something I was curious about it, I wasn’t thinking they spied on us or they were cheating. Half the stuff I say is spontaneous and witty, and I don’t think anything else about it. I’m sorry I said the word spying. I was joking and having fun with it.”

Joking or otherwise, that should bring a close to this chapter in Spygate references.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.
