Not sure the formation of the Defense is as important as getting the best people on the field.

If the Steelers don't have a dominant 3-4 NT there is always argument for 4-3.

Al Woods looked disruptive. Have him, Heyward & Ziggy at DT, Keisel & Woodley at DE, Worilds could put his hand in the dirt. There's still McLendon & Fangupo to add to the mix.

Would a 4-3 benefit a Vince Williams or Sean Spence? Quite possibly. Could have Timmons play OLB, and Worilds play DE- his college position.

Not saying the Steelers SHOULD go 4-3, just that it isn't as evil or as far fetched as some might want it to be.

Heyward could play both...DE or DT...

Usually in the Tampa-2, the strong side DE is a guy like Heyward...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

            by Ed Bouchette

Big Todd: Ed, Since it will cost the Steelers $14M to cut Woodley, he does not seem like a reasonable cap causality, so where does that leave this team? Should they cut Troy? How can they resign Worilds with some much dead money in front of them?

Ed Bouchette: I keep hearing about that $14 M figure, but that would be if they cut him before June 1. If they designated him for June 2 or cut him then, he would count only $5.5 M on their cap this year and SAVE them $8 million in cap room and real money.

i would have think tomlin is more of a 3-4 guy than a 4-3.
he only had one year experience running the 4-3 in minny as the DC.
the rest of his 4-3 time was as a db coach. that was 5 years under monte kiffin.
he has now almost completed his 7th year with DL teaching him the 3-4.
steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clown

Agree Squid. Add into the situation that he is not the one who has to coach and teach the system, so really he only needs to be worrying about whether or not he believes that the right personnel and teachers are in place.

Plus it will be easier to build the depth on the defense because 25% of the players aren't converting position on defense which they are sumultaneously trying to learn an over complicated defense. Players would move naturally into the positons they have played in college.

With each Sunday failure it becomes more obvious that they have reached the point I said we would by not being able to sustain what we had. That is why we held onto players for too long because we really just got lucky with the right players at the right time. Keeping the in-flow of young talent is critical in a system with a salary cap.
