The great leader Ben Roethlisberger at it again...

Calling out Bell, saying he don't know about him making it sound like the rookie is dogging it. Hey Ben are you trying to take the pressure off your poor play.

BellIt appears that Ben Roethlisberger’s weekly radio show on 93.7 The Fan was a little more interesting than just the usual cliché-filled stuff we might find from the Steelers’ quarterback yesterday.

To say that Roethlisberger called out rookie running back Le’Veon Bell was an understatement.

When asked about Bell, this is what he had to say, “You can’t get a read on him. One day he’s practicing, one day he’s not. One day he’s going hard, one day he’s not. I wish I could (tell you) if he were a guy like Heath Miller, who you knew was busting his butt every day to get back there.”

I’m no expert but that sounds to me like you aren’t real impressed with a guy’s work-ethic. To be compared to Heath Miller, who has returned from a major knee injury in roughly nine months, sends a pretty strong message that you aren’t doing what you need to be doing.

Context ... The way it is being printed/portrayed is not the context in which it was said. Heard the show, and basically all Ben was saying was that since the injuries he hasn't been able to get a read on how good the kid may be when he comes back. Not like a proven commodity like Heath.

I wouldn't take that as Ben not owning his stuff. I would take it more as him trying to motivate a rookie. With that said, we don't have the context of the entire conversation, so judgment of this convo will be short sighted and incomplete at best.

Maybe to you Shawn, but not to the media outlets. I have already seen three different articles taking it the same way. The Depot being just one of them.

Oh and just wait until the great ESPN catch hold of it later today and it will spread like a wild fire.

The media, as we all know are like sharks in bloody water. This team, which has been so good for so long ... isn't; and the media is looking for any sign of internal dissension/disharmony. We all know to expect this from the likes of Bouchette, the lawyer, PSPN etc.

So a veteran player is calling out a rookie? Never seen that before in the NFL.

Oh please, don't hurt the rookie's feelings by showing him how the consummate pro goes about his business after an injury that shredded the support structure of his knee. Geesh, people will look for any reason to criticize Ben. If he says nothing, it's a problem, if he say's something it's a problem, evidently, watching Heath go through a mental and physical rehab to get back on the field isn't obvious enough of what is expected.

Yeah, context might be nice. It doesn't make sense for Ben to "question" Bell at this point. First of all, Ben and the team is playing like $h!t themselves, and opens people up to tell him to look in the d@mn mirror. Second, Bell hasn't even been around long enough, for them to grate on each other's nerves (if this is to be believed).
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

different injury. different rehab, different timetable... not cool to compare them IMO

A SB winning QB calling out a rookie is no big deal if you are 3-0, 2-1 or even 1-1. But when you are 0-3 and if you are one of the reasons that you are, then calling out a rookie who haven't contributed to wins or losses look bad. After he blame himself then the OL and OC should be next, not a rookie...
