Steelers looking at Franklin in the second?

They may have him ranked higher than Lacy on their board.

A number of teams tell Draftinsider.net's Tony Pauline that UCLA's Johnathan Franklin ranks higher than Lacy on their boards. The New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers are among the teams "looking hard" at Franklin, according Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.

Franklin is drawing comparisons to Frank Gore and Doug Martin as a three-down back with NFL-ready pass-protection skills and the physicality to succeed between the tackles at the NFL level.
Highly productive last season at UCLA, Franklin piled up 1,734 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns while adding 33 catches for 323 yards. He's a more complete back than Lacy.

Franklin would seem to be a better fit for Haley's offense than Le'veon Bell. The latter may appeal to fans who want to capture the past but not sure he fits the diverse offense Haley seems to want.

doesn't look any bigger than Tavon Austin, the school lists him at 5'11", 195, but looks smaller than that in this film. I don't know, I'd have to do some more study on him, I'm not sure he's my first pick for RB.

I like Gio Bernard better than Lacy. I like a healthy Lattimore better than all of them though, so I think he's worth risking a mid-round pick even if he isn't back to his former self until 2014.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I think he would be a good fit. Had some fumbling concerns early on from what I've read but his hands measured 9-1/2, I think I saw only two guys with bigger. Lattimore and someone else, can't remember. So maybe some coaching corrected that. I think he would be a good round 2 target.
