Late Round WRs

If Sanders leaves, a WR will probably be drafted early and also in the later rounds (5th or later). Here are a few worth considering. I left out those projected to go higher to limit the discussion. Feel free to add any if like.

Josh Boyce – TCU 5’11” 206lbs 4.3 40 Probably a slot WR. Good in routes, willing blocker.

Aaron Mellette – ELON 6’3” 217lbs 4.45 40 Small school competition, good body use and hands catcher, good routes but takes awhile to get to top speed.

Rodney Smith – Florida State 6’5” 225lbs 4.43 – 4.5 40 Athletic, fast, good blocker, not very physical in contested balls, needs some developing.

Corey Fuller – Virginia Tech 6’2” 204lbs 4.3 -4.4 40 Fast, explosive in/out of cuts, needs development.

Jasper Collins – Mount Union 5’11 190 4.49 40 Div III school, slot WR, good route running, more quick than fast, possible punt returner.

Any favorites?? Selections may be prefaced with who we draft early. If we draft a #1 WR candidate, maybe a slot receiver late or vice versa. I would like to draft Deandre Hopkins in the first then maybe Josh Boyce in the later rounds.

A mid to late round WR I like is Chris Harper outta KSU. He's built like Anquan Boldin and like Boldin is a converted QB.

I'd be curious about Marqueise Gray in the later rounds. It's a question of what position he will play in the NFL. He is big and fast, very athletic, could be tough to cover as a WR, TE or H-back.

Representatives from 13 NFL teams gathered at the pro day held at Minnesota on March 4, where nine Golden Gophers and 11 other players from various smaller schools in the area went through a workout held indoors on FieldTurf.

At Minnesota’s pro day, Gray first worked out as a quarterback (which he also did at the combine), and then also worked out as a wide receiver and tight end (Gray made starts as both a quarterback and receiver in his career with the Golden Gophers).

I think the most purely talented WR is Da'Rick Rogers and if he drops, I'd take a shot at him. I think he's the only legit 1st round talent and could be considered a steal in round 2 with some big character caveats.

The other guy I'm interested to see where he lands is Woods. He's another guy that if he drops into round 3, he might be worth considering. Heck I'd consider him in the 2nd after Rogers.

In the 7th, I love Brandon Kaufman who could be a great Red Zone mismatch for us. He's 6'5" and can jump. He ran a slow 40 so people are saying he's a 7th rounder or UDFA. No way. Kid's got talent. He was hurt last year, but put up monster numbers the prior 2 years. He's actually going into my updated mock.

Based on the theory of finding playmakers, then finding a way to get them on the football field with the ball in their hands... Denard Robinson, anybody? Likely could be had at 6A and the results on the field spoke for themselves. He could earn his keep as a KR/PR while learning the Dexter McCluster/ Chris Rainey slot receiver/ 3rd down back hybrid that Haley has used before, besides maybe allowing us to blow the dust off the old ARE WR option passes...

Haley probably wants Patterson who was used all over the place. He's a lot like Timmons in a way with very little experience, but all the talent in the world.

He took Amerson to school last year and he's one of my favorite DBs in the draft. But I'd have a hard time drafting Patterson in the first round.
